Curry's pc.world

Sorry this is long
So I had a washer that wasn't working had it fixed a total of four times after numerous fixes they finally agreed on a new machine then that's where my problem starts
On the day of delivery I made room for them to come through our back door as we don't use it it houses our freezer and an extension lead with both our fridge freezer and extra freezer.
And as the guys have delivered it they have fully unplugged the freezers and failed to put back or inform us of this that night I have a tale away so do not go into get food or use the freezers
Then next day around 11 am I notice it's out and my freezer food is not frozen so the lot goes in the bin all the while I am on phone to Curry's while cleaning it all out and I'm so all over the place worries etc and have to go to pick up my autistic son who is 3 from nursery at 11.30 I don't realise my fridge freezer would be the same I am also at this time looking after my 3 month old baby and 1.5 year old baby I have 3 children 3 and under so my mind is hectic at the best of times
I take pictures of the food the empty freezers to be told I will only get £34.60. and I had just done my shop from 2 different places for the month as I'm on u.c as my autistic son has to have specific special food. I've been waiting for a manager to call me no one had so I called bk then I get told I have to send in my receipts and pictures to which I did.
Still I got no call back so I have phoned today and she said I can only see cupboard things on the receipt to which I stated then my email address to which she found them all and then said she would contact me back well I have just got a call she was nasty and saying it was my fault because it's my house and I should check all my plugs and house every night to which I said my back door never gets used because I have an sever autistic son who can't play in the bk garden because it's dangerous and there is no room in our small house for my freezer to go but there so that's all it's used for appart from me opening it for the delivery so all she was going to offer was 34.60 cause that's the capacity of the one freezer now I spent £161 for the month shop that's just for the 2 freezers and fridge which I supplied the evidence of.
They have left us with nothing and she said they hadn't and it was down to me.
But they hadn't rang me back at all to let me know anything only today after contact them again did she call back.
I said I would seek further advice because this is totally wrong where do I go from here.
And another question does anyone store there food in the boxes they came in or take them out where possible to save space and fit more in ?
I take all mine out cram pack the freezers so we never should go short pictures where also sent of my full freezer after borrowing money to fill it again to which I sent the receipt of that aswell which was near enough £161.
She was also impolite attitude yet again.
So I actually told her her attitude stinks towards me and she had no right.
Please tell me where I can take this further it is not a scam for money this really has happened and all my proof was sent.
And I still have it all in emails aswell.
Noone has got bk to me at all

It's perfectly reasonable that they will want evidence of the value of the food in the fridge and freezers before paying out. You should not have thrown all the food out because with it seems to have gone proper evidence that it existed. I also suspect that a freezer without power for less than 24 hours would have still kept the majority of the food in it cold enough that it didn't need to be disposed of.

If you step back and look at the situation objectively, it looks like this:

You claim that £161 worth of food was spoiled.
You have limited receipt evidence of this because the receipt seemingly includes a load of non-freezer food as well as frozen stuff.
You have no packaging because you threw it out to save space, so your photos just show a load of freezer bags or similar?
You have no spoiled food as evidence because you threw it all out (probably prematurely).

To be honest, it looks like an exaggerated claim would. Taking all the food out of its packaging and throwing the packaging away seems unusual - I've never known anyone do that but I suppose some people might.

What can you do next? Try and gather evidence to dispute the amount. And stay calm and polite. I sympathise with what sounds like a hectic home life but bringing emotion and children into it doesn't help your case - your food is no more valuable than anyone else's.

Maybe I didn't write this down properly when I get my shopping I do not keep the food in boxes eg fish fingers they all go into freezer bags to save space macaroni cheese that is covered and no use for the cardboard that's all taken out to save space so more food fits in. Pizzas are arranged in my freezer without boxes no need for them.
    Poppets etc freezer bags.
Now who wants to try foods that are soggy wet and not frozen anymore I have taken pictures of them all and with what I do keep in boxes and that has all been sent off and as for the receipt well I was asked to show the whole recept who can actually cut off part of it where it's just freezer food when they need evidance of the dates etc etc.
I am just letting the people who read this telling them of how I felt as obviously I am an emotional person but who wouldn't be especially with the added extra of this problem.
Food thrown out was taken pics of where am I ment to keep it in the house or outside cats dogs animals into it etc etc for over 3 weeks.
It wasn't edible from 3pm till 11 am you can see from the pictures it wasn't edible all the ice lollys ice creams gone everything when I rang I was cleaning it out while on the phone and you could tell my distress at the food loss I understand they want evidence and I was told to wait till a manager phoned me back noone did so I rang again after the 72 hour wait and was told not to send till a manager had rang still nothing after 2 weeks so I rang again then was told I can now send it in so I did waited over 72 hours again and still nothing so today I ring and get that and attitude and nasty Ness and just so it's all my fault am I going nuts in the world?

I understand that the freezer is supposed to be kept frozen or cold but it wasn't and I am not risking gammon and chicken with my baby's would most it wasn't frozen now if it was like the jacket potato wow that's all I could keep I was amazed the freezer is only a year old and work fine unless obviously unplugged

Freezer without power 24 hours food should be 100% ok mainly.
Meat Veg and the like OK bread may have gone a bit soft but OK .
If meat etc was thawed then its a faulty freezer/ door .

Throw away boxes not sure what the OP means but it would not be normal to throw away for instance a box that has fish finger beefburger ready meals in and put the stuff in lose .

It's all plugged into an extension lead across my back door.
They asked for the full receipt I gave it if they want a break down I will do this for them surly I mainly do my shop at one place for my freezer food.
My house can be hectic but even more so when things happen like this and we get left without so much of a sorry but it's our fault?
Thank you for your reply though

They are not in loose they are arranged in freezer bags with dates on and split into bags so they can fit more food in the freezer does noone at all do this or even herd of this and not keep the boxes freezer bags are used in my house for frozen food when storage can be saved.
Do you leave you ice pops ice lollys and stuff in a box or do you empty them and place them in the basket in the freezer or keep em in boxes.
My freezer is full right now and has no problems with the lids or keeping the food frozen?

I'm sorry but there is no way a fully packed freezer would have defrosted that much in such a short space of time if the doors were not opened at all. When my old freezer failed I used it for three days while I waited for delivery of a replacement, I put ice packs in a relatives freezer to keep mine cold and 90% of the food was fine to go in the new freezer.

Another time my in laws freezer failed, they had been away for the weekend so food was slightly more defrosted than if they'd noticed sooner. They threw out a small portion of unsafe/inedible food and cooked up the rest to refreeze in my freezer until their new one got delivered.

Plus I regularly go camping with my raw fed dogs and take just a cooler box with ice packs with up to 5 days of food and by the last day it is still chilled if not frozen.

Even if the food had fully defrosted which is highly highly improbable 90% would have been salvageable by cooking it and then refreezing making it perfectly safe to reheat at a later date.

You seem to have jumped the gun and overreacted to what was a minor thing and you chose to throw out food that was otherwise safe.

I keep things in their original packaging. It sounds a right hassle to unpack everything, re-pack it in bags and label it all. I can't believe the packaging takes up that much room - there is no way the manufacturers will waste that much space because at the volumes they have to store things in, wasted space would cost them a fortune. As boxes of lollies, fish fingers, etc start to empty I just fold the empty part of the box in on itself to save space.

If the problem ever occurs again, don't act so hastily. I'm sure you've disposed of a load of perfectly safe food prematurely. Most freezers will keep food at -15 to -20C and if the power goes off, will keep at that temperature for a long time and it will take even longer to warm to a level where the food will spoil, especially if you limit the number of times you open the door. Think about how long it takes for a pack of sausages to defrost if you leave them out in ambient temperature. Hours. Now think of the same packet in temperatures of -10C or below, they will stay safely frozen for well over 24 hours. Same with the fridge food but you have a lesser timescale to work with.

The point about you disposing of things prematurely isn't just a dig - you have a duty to mitigate your losses with what is in effect an insurance claim. Having noticed that Currys had left the appliances unplugged, you had a duty to minimise your losses and therefore to minimise your claim. You can't just chuck everything out and expect them to pay out. I suspect that of the £161 worth of food you threw away, at least half of it you could have kept.

could of cooked some of it rather than bin it, also when these guys had finished and you were shutting the back door etc did you not check if everything was in order ie locks plugs etc?
why do you assume they unplugged the plugs do you think there was a chance they were preventing a potential trip hazard accident while carrying stuff in?

So you take every fish finger out of the box and bag them then throw the box away .Likewise for every other item .

Me i keep 99% of freezer food in the boxes .Certainly would not put ice lolly in a basket.

However all that is besides the point .
you failed to mitigate your losses by throwing out good food .
Further advice a soliciter or your local Citizens Advice .
But they may not give you the advice you actually are looking for £161 .Only the same advice as on here .
Or you could take action via the small claims court for your £161 .

My mum took the plug out from my freezer to plug in the lawnmower because she thought she was doing me a favour while I was away for a weekend wedding. She did it on Friday afternoon and I returned Sunday evening but all I lost was ice cream. It may have been a different story if the freezer had not been completely full but because it was packed tightly everything was saved.

I agree that the Op must have jumped the gun throwing stuff out because if there was £160 of food in there it must have been a pretty tight fit.

I must admit that I do sometimes remove things from the boxes and pack in freezer bags. I put fish fingers into 4s for the kids and if I freeze pork chops I take them out of the big trays they come in and put them into 2s in freezer bags. It does save a lot of space and if you are short of space you can soon slot things into tiny places if they are just in bags.

I think its more of a concern that the OP has both fridge and freezer running off an extension lead plugged into a single socket.
