    I'd go for a Suzuki.
    We've had 3 and the reliability is fantastic.
  • I'll throw my thoughts in, for what it's worth...

    We (myself and partner) recently purchased a BMW X1 and we love it.

    It's a fancy one - 20d xDrive MSport, so it was a little bit more expensive than your other suggestions, but I honestly believe it's worth it (if you can afford it & like BMW!)

    I watched around a dozen CarWow Car Reviews by a guy called Matt Watson. I found them great because he followed a very similar pattern with every review...
    An outside walk around, a look at the inside, a car boot test (with an arrangement of suitcases and boxes) a test drive, a 5 things he likes and hates about the car and a final summary.

    I compared his reviews of a BMW X1, Mazda CX-5, Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA, Mercedes GLC, Kia Sportage, Peugeot 3008, Range Rover Evoque, Volkswagen Tiguan, Volkswagen T-Roc... the list is endless...

    Anyway, we decided on the X1 for a number of reasons;
    - we loved the look of it.
    - the boot space is a whopping 505 litres
    - the car itself wasn't as big as the Sportage etc. even though it's an SUV
    - the specification met our needs (leather heated seats, parking sensors, parking camera etc).
    - it drives like a typical BMW (cue the jokes about getting round in the snow... well, it's an xDrive, so we'll be fine!)
    - the 'real life' MPG is around 40mpg... which is kind of what we expected, so we're happy with that.

    The best advice I could give is to sit in every model you like, maybe even drive some of them and go with what feels best.

    You'll have to drive it, after all!

    Snow grip is all down to tyres. Wrong tyres, and you'll sit there with all four wheels spinning.

    {Likely to be getting a new car in the not-to-distant future. Budget varies, depending if an inheritance comes through before the MOT (potential problem with emissions) is due or not - could be 5k or 17k!}
