    They all look the same!

That's the problem I have with small/medium hatchbacks, I think I should look at a Hyundai I20 or a Suzuki Swift, but overwhelmed by a sense of blandness, and besides passenger seat may not have enough room for my Partner (with osteoporosis).

Juke certainly does not appeal (besides next-door has one), Qashqai looks good but don't want something that big. I've driven Peugeot Expresses, Boxers & Experts in the past, but that doesn't mean I want to be driving around a supermarket car-park in anything that size!

Like the Renault Capture - but can't get away from the feeling that 0.9 ltr engine is 'small'! Which maybe the case to with the Ignis plus too similar in size to current Citroen C3 (03).
Looks like I need to find out more about the Mokka (Crossland looks a bigger version). Wondering around one in a car-park seems about a foot longer than the 'C3', with a 'look' that's different.

There are some "different" options out there.

    Subaru XV
    Suzuki S-Cross
SsangYong Tivoli / XLV / Korando

Whether you like them or not is up to you!

VW Tiguan for me. I've had my 16 plate for two years - 22,000 miles and nothing other than new front tyres. Husband had a 12 plate for 6 years - 96,000 miles and nothing other than tyres and a new set of brakepads. Now he's on an 18 plate R Line model and loving it even more than his old one. Very comfortable as a driver and passenger - even the 80+ MIL is ok with getting in and out and she has limited movement due to a broken hip. Husband is pondering changing to a T-Roc next year and giving me the R Line - I'm not going to discourage him!

Went to Homebase recently parked close to hat turned out to be a Suzuki Ignis - comparable in size to current car - interesting.
I had one of these as courtesy car a few months ago, im my opinion it was one of the worst cars i've ever driven. Steering was awful, seats were very uncomfortable and very very small inside.

Hi, i agree with another comment re: test driving a few. I currently have 12 plate Honda CRV, prior to that i had a 64 plate Nissan Qashqai. Whilst the Qashqai has the SUV styling and raised driving position i find that my CRV feels much higher to get in and out of compared to the Qashqai.

Thanks for all the suggestions, though some judging by the engine size - are bigger than I'm looking for. While, my feeling that the 0.9 & 1.0 ltr of th capture & Ecosport are a bit small, in terms of mpg & RT I'd prefer <1.6.

Currently, my mpg, is between 48 & 70+ - depending on the journeys made. OTOH I'm doing less long motorway journeys than I used to.
Currently the Road Tax is just £30.00.

SUV or saloon/hatchback? Depends on how you like your driving. I love the nimble on the road feel of my Lexus IS as compared with SUVs that I've driven but I'm happy to trundle around in our workhorse Jazz. .I've seen comparisons between the Lexus and 3 series and the former is said to be more nimble but I've never driven a 3 series myself. Seating position is pretty low but not a problem for me as yet.

Dacia Duster has a new 1.3 Turbo engine - same as used in Renault/Nissan and some other premium brands. You can get it in 130 and 150bhp.

When it comes to the two Vauxhall options, the Mokka is a much older design - launched 2012, and from GM Korea (what used to be Daewoo/Chevrolet). It's going to be discontinued in Europe very soon.

The Crossland X is a much more modern design, one of the first of the Opel products under PSA ownership, and is the same basic car as the Citroen C3 Aircross.
