Why so many wasps already?

In the last 3 weeks weve suddenly had alot of wasps coming in through our windows. We keep them on the catch as we call them most of the time due to having indoor cats. They're open a small amount on the latch, yet severel walss a day try to enter and at least 1 or 2 a day succeed. It's mostly my bedroom window which is at the front but they also come in all the upstairs windows. I bought some netting off Ebay and the last 2 days its helped stopped any enter but I'd say about 5 a day come up the the netting in my room trying their luck.. When I sit downstairs in the room below, barely any try ro enter through those windows that are on the latch.

Hubby has been outside, looked all around the outside pf the house and not seen wasps entering or flying out of the walls, windows or roof. It just seems a tad excessive. They're big wasps too. Last summer we had the windows open in the heatwave and I think we had about 4 all summer. Its bizarre its April and it's a daily issue. We just can't pinpoint why other than werve a huge cherry blossom tree outside in the front driveway but the wasps seem to be entering through all upstairs windows mainly mine at the front though. Ive watched the guttering, and all around my window and theres no wasps in and our of a cavity. I'm really puzzled and worried, it scares me and daily I'm a nervous wreck at home. I was woken at 7am today with one trying to enter through the small gap in the window. I have chronic fatigue syndrome and sometimes need to rest during the day I have to close my windows which isn't great in this weather or mima jumpy wreck when I hear one entering my room.

My mum said she's had a lot in her house and others have seen many wasps already but I've honestly never known so many to enter our home.

Any advice? I dont want to call someone our and look a fool when I say I cant see a neat or them flying in and out of an area. Is look a right prat lol.

If you can’t locate any obvious nests then what you’re doing is about as good as you’re going to get.

Although there is a lot of fear around them, much of it is irrational. They won’t sting you if unprovoked, they only do so if they or their nests are threatened or to paralyse their prey. Most wasp stings arise from people squashing them by accident or from attacking them. They’re annoying but not the aggressive danger many people believe them to be.

I dislike wasps, but love bees.

Anyway, a shallow saucer or however many, with water and jam or some sugary substance placed away from where you are sitting in the garden does work.

    No advice but a /metoo.

Also studied the house/eaves and a previous gap in a wooden porch where they had a nest and can't locate where they are going.

They do seem slower and dopier than proper summer wasps.
  • Sorry if Ive misread , but Have you got a loft ?

That amount of wasps is definitely unusual. The only time we've been troubled by that number was when we had a wasp nest in our utility room extension. The entrance to the nest was tiny so very easy to miss, only by watching them you could see where they entered.

My guess is you have a wasp nest in your loft/eaves or even in the wall at the top of your house.

It's queen bees looking for a nest. As long as you don't irritate them they'll soon leave you alone. You can get products to deter them from building a nest, but they're probably looking for somewhere a bit different than your house.
