in Credit cards
I received a letter today, Marisota from JD Williams that’s what said In the letterhead.
It says that I applied for a credit card from the above mentioned, I was turned down for the credit card. I will say again at no point did I applied for a credit card from the above mentioned
They talk about Experian and me obtaining a copy of my credit report and that’s what contributed In their decision In turning down the application for the credit card.
The last part of the letter talks about me contacting them to talk about the application for the credit card.
I have contacted no one about this, apart for mentioning It here.
Is this a phishing scam?
I just want to ask some advice on this.

JD Williams trade under a variety of names marisota is one of them according to a quick search, worth calling them as someone may have (may have note) applied using your details. But you won't know until you speak to them.0

I will have to wait till Monday.
Also, this Monday is a bank holiday in the UK so they may not be working on this day.0 -
Judging by the strange contact times, probably a phishing attempt.
If you choose to call them from the number in the letter, withhold your number first. If they try to take you through security by asking for other information, give false info. If they are phishing, they won't have this information and will fail to spot your incorrect answers. If that happens you could call them out.
Preferably call using a number you find yourself from their official website and perhaps check your credit file to see if there has been a search - or if there is anything there for you to be concerned about.0 -
Thank for all the responses folk's.
Looking at the letter again, It says and I quote from the letter,
Monday's to Thursday's 8am - 8pm, & Saturday's 8am - 4pm.
There were two phone numbers on the letter, one for Experian.
The other was for a contact phone numbers for Marisota from JD Williams, about contacting them to talk about the application for the credit card.
I did not phone any of the numbers
I have contacted Marisota from JD Williams, through their official site, by email.
At some point I will have to speak to them via the phone, I did give contact details through the general.enquiries@marisota.co.uk, email.
Tho I did use another email on their site, cmt@marisota.co.uk, the email got returned, on their site It says that It It a complaints email, strange that you cant use their complaints email, I am being somewhat cautious of this.
This Is something of what I put In the email I sent them.
I requested details from Marisota from JD Williams and quote:
“About the application for the credit card, or any account details.
If what I’ve requested Is not possible, then I require you to pass this to the police
And please explain to them In full the reasons why this has been passed to the police.”
I did get some what of a response, Vage...and I quote.
“We aim to provide a response to you within five working days.
If we require any additional time to answer your query we will inform you as soon as possible.”
Evan tho It's just over 12 hours since I sent the email, could they have got legal advice?
All now I can do Is wait for there response.0 -
That is just an acknowledgement (a holding response, if you like) pending their full response - which won't come until at least the end of the bank holiday weekend.0
