My contract has run out so I’m looking at BT and a few other ISP-s. I’m not interested in Fiber as this is just for myself and personal use. I’m not a gamer, my use is basically: surfing, emails, YouTube and Netflix.i have a BT landline their mobile signal is poor in my area.
BT does seem expensive when compared to a number of other suppliers eg BT seem to be offering: Unlimited broadband with an average speed of 10Mb at £25 while PlusNet are offering a similar package at £19 with a £75 gift card. While the Post Office offering is £15.90 (who do the PO piggy back on, I’ve never reallys heard them mentioned before!)
If I did decide to stay with BT I would be looking to get something from them, a new Home Hub but I’ve been reading that there appears to be some issues here. However the posts I’ve read seem to date back to 2018. Do these issues remain.
Id appreciate your comments and advice and as alway thanks for your time

Why go for the most expensive option?Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.0

If your preference is to stay with BT for one reason or another, then initially threaten to leave and tell them about the other offers and see if they can match them or at least go some way towarrds them to keep you as a customer. Often this is done by the way of free upgrade to fibre or such like, so it may not work out any cheaper.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have you tried phoning BTs options on 0800 800 030 to see what they can offer.
Nowadays it pays to haggle with them.0 -
I dumped BT as soon as I could and went to plusnet, same service for half the price0

If the OP's worried about being offline for a long while should a problem develop just because they're not with BT, don't be. Even if you have a fault with the line while you're with BT it still goes through Openreach even if you were with Plusnet, BT, TalkTalk, Sky, etc.
Openreach is owned by BT but is effectively at arms length and presented as an entirely separate company. Whether it will eventually become entirely separate in time remains to be seen.0 -

PlusNet was the one I was lookin at. But th Post Office seemed a good deal. I assume they are piggy backing on one of the major suppliers.
Do you know anything about the Post Office service0 -
