Some calls going straight to Voicemail

Happy Easter(ish) everyone!

I've got an issue on my Mobile whereby some (not all) calls, sometimes, go straight to Voicemail. The Phone can be sitting on a desk in front of me, not ring and suddenly i'll get a Voicemail notification. Or in the case of yesterday a family member tried to call me to give me news about a poorly member of the family and the phone didn't ring, but a voicemail was left. They got hold of me two hours later on my land-line. However, it does ring other times. I also lost out to a phone job interview a few months ago because of "technical problems".

I know my stuff, call waiting/call hold/forwarding settings etc are all correct.

The number is currently with one of the piggyback networks as i'm generally a low volume, money saving user. The handset is an iPhone 5S which is slow and the Battery is getting on a bit.

I'm now in a position whereby I cannot afford the missed calls and I need to be on the ball 100% of the time for the sake of my family.

I'm currently on the verge of agreeing to purchase a new iPhone as part of me thinks it's the Phone which is causing the calls to sporadically connect but part of me is also looking at the network and wondering if moving back to a Tier 1 network would be a better move.

Can anyone offer their insight please?

A call is diverted to voicemail when the called phone has temporarily lost network connection - can this be the basic reason? Or do you always have a strong signalv on your phone?
    Evolution, not revolution
  • Yesterday I was in my own home, in a strong 4G enabled area. My phone in my pocket buzzed, I took it out and I had a new voicemail (no missed call).

I can think of probably 5-10 occurrences over the last four months where someone has tried to contact me and the phone hasn't responded. I haven't been at home for all of those, but generally in good reception areas.

eDicky I completely get your reason. I just can't understand in this particular circumstance if I should be blaming the provider or the handset.

It's possible that your local mast was over subscribed at the time of the call. It would go straight to VM then, with no missed call showing on the handset (because the call never made it to the handset).

If it's happening a lot you could have a mast down around you somewhere or you could be in a busy area...
