    OK, they quibbled. But they're refunding through goodwill, even though they don't legally have to.

    So not the tensioner etc, but an overdue-for-changing (or road debris?) serp belt - and bits of it went into the cambelt, taking that out. The cambelt is collateral damage to the actual failure.
