Asking for a friend.
Long story short, siblings do not get on.
She wants to go to the funeral directors and say her good byes to her mum, she is badly ill and cannot face the arguments that will happen if she goes to the funeral.
She contacted the funeral directors and they said that was fine.
They have just phoned her up to say she can't visit them as her sister has said no.
As it's her mum, doers she have any rights?
thanks

The way things are going, soon we are all going to be victims of something or other.
Who will we blame then?

The FD will take instructions from the person paying the bill.
If that's her sister, then the FD can't let your friend see her mother.0 -
I agree with Mojisola, the person paying the bill calls the shots.
This sounds like an unhealthy relationship.
Even if I had such hatred for my sister, I could never see myself doing something as despicable as this.
But there you go, people nowadays have loss all sense of integrity and it is a downward spiral of life.0 -
How many siblings are there? Can you go and pretend to be one of the others.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
That is despicably cruel.
Go to the funeral, go in last, go out first.
Just stsy out of yhe way.
Really sorry you lost your mum.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I think the question is too open for an appropriate answer to be forthcoming.
She must have rights.
But has she caused great upset in the past?
Or is the bill-payer a control freak?
What if.... she had a restraining order against her prohibiting from seeing the mother she'd tried to murder 15 years ago?
What if ..... the sister denying her access is a bully and has taken control of the deceased mother's home/estate for the last 5 years and not allowed any family near?
Nobody can answer without knowing all the details really.
There's a black and white stock answer... but then there's the "Oh I didn't realise...." answer.0 -
The FD has a duty to follow their customer's instructions and if that includes the condition that certain or even all persons are barred from viewing the body then they need to follow those instructions.
It is after all a business transaction.0 -

Sisters didn't get on, as simple as that.
I need to check tomorrow, but as far as I know her mum is paying for the funeral herself.
I cant believe someone doesn't have the right to see their mum, when their sister is being spiteful.
It appears anyone can be an undertaker, there's zero regulation, there's more regulation concerning a dead pet than a dead humanThe way things are going, soon we are all going to be victims of something or other.

It's not me, it's a good friend who is currently stressed to breaking point. There's one sister involved. The way things are going, soon we are all going to be victims of something or other.

The FD can't make a contract with the deceased - a living person has to sign the paperwork.
My parents had pre-paid funeral plans but I still had to sign the FD's contract.0 -
