Windows 10 and Edge vs Google Chrome

I have a Lenovo notebook which is about 6 months old and a HP Laptop which is only a couple of weeks old, both are experiencing problems with Google Chrome like pages very slow to load and quite often Google not responding, when it was happening on the Levono I put it down to buying a cheap notebook, however, the HP Laptop was in the region of £450 and has the same issue. I notice when I click Edge I get a performance comparison showing how much faster Edge is compared to Google Chrome and Firefox, call me cynical but could it be that Microsoft are deliberately slowing down other browsers so you use theirs?
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

Why would Microsoft deliberately slow down others browsers on your machines but not on any other machines? I thought that Google Chrome was a notorious memory hog. It certainly seems to use more RAM than other browsers on the odd occasions that I've checked.interstellaflyer wrote: »call me cynical but could it be that Microsoft are deliberately slowing down other browsers so you use theirs?0 -

Shouldn't a brand new laptop in the £450 price range have adequate resources to cope with general browsing, on both the HP and Levono I have no documents, photos, videos or additional software except my printer drivers, also I have 2 old Toshiba Laptops running windows 7, they don't suffer this issue, neither do our work computers (also running windows 7). As for why would Microsoft slow other browsers down? Possibly because in the past Microsoft browsers have been pretty crap and people have been using the likes of Google, Firefox etc instead, I'd guess Microsoft have a vested interest in people using Edge, all I know is that I have 2 new laptops that don't like Google Chrome for some reason.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
The new Edge browser will be Chromium based just like all the others. The conspiracy theory that MS slow down other browsers is ridiculous.
If that was the case everyone would have the same problems.
As for the other browsers, a lot can affect them including what extensions you have.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Edge will only be Chromium based in the near future, it is not Chromium based as of right now (it uses EdgeHTML which is an MS only technology).
It is available as a developer download but will probably turn up one day in a Windows Update at some point when its fully ready.
With regards to Google Chrome, 95% of all problems with browsers that use profiles (like Chrome or Firefox) is that the profile develops an issue. In Chrome there is an option to Reset under the three dots -> Settings -> Advanced -> Reset. The other common option is an extension issue.
The advanced nature of adverts tends to end up nobbling a lot of the cheaper laptops, you may want to grab an ad-blocker just to test and see if things speed up with it.
You can ignore the "Edge is x% faster than anything else" blurb, that's because its built into the operating system, its no different to what they were saying 20 years ago when Internet Explorer was integrated into Windows 98.0 -
I think I said 'will be chromium based' indicating future builds.
I've downloaded the new edge and it's working flawlessly at the moment. We'll see how it reacts as extensions are added etc. Being able to use the Chrome store for extensions gives some new choices....
Can't complain about something until I've used it a while. In the meantime FF is my main browser still.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Chrome is better than all browsers0

I prefer Chrome because it is fast and has a simple design.0

I have a cheap HP tower and find Chrome is better than Edge.
Microsoft Edge often hangs whereas Chrome seems to have a better rate of reliability. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
