Is my new address already blacklisted?

Hi guys

Recently moved into a privately rented flat. I am being hounded with letters from numerous debt companies for more than 5 previous tenants who racked up debts. I have sent the letters back in the majority explaining these people no longer live at the address and I am single mother new tenant. They are writing back to me thanking me for my correspondence and then continuing to insist a payment plan is set up (logic ).

Have these people 'blacklisted' this address? (I heard blacklisting is when the property is tainted by the previous tenants debt issues but I am unsure what it is and how true it is)
If I register on the elec reg at this address will I have a bad credit score?

Any helpful replies would be really appreciated.

Thanks guys

no such thing as an address being blacklisted. Credit histories and debts are tied to an individual not their address.
Ignore anything not addressed to you - send it back if you feel like it

No. There is no property blacklist.

Previous tenants will not affect your own history.

thats amazing. The gaul of these companies.

Anyway, as other have said. Won't affect you 1 iota. Just "return to sender" and put a note that that person doesnt live there anymore. Let your postie know too.

Just ignore the letters - there is nothing that will happen to you personally and you won't be affected in any way

Ity would be more true to say there is no such thing as a shared blacklist.

An individual company is free to "blacklist" a property and they often do, sky for example has been known to refuse service when it has had issues with multiple people at a property. Of course you could argue that is not a blacklist as people understand it.
  • It’s not a credit blacklist like OP was enquiring about.
    Entirely different matter.
And when it comes to utility blacklists like Sky they’re usually only applicable whilst the person is still residing there.

No, as I said if they have had multiple bad customers as an address they have been known to just refuse service to anyone under any name. And while that is not shared with other companies, they can do the same if they like. How many do is unclear. Usually happens to student accomodation though. And definately a blacklist of sorts, even if rare.
