Children change flats, schools, areas, parents separation all the time and manage to get through it without any "emotional damage".

I totally agree with this, my kids and myself are testament of it but it would seem that judges always consider children's best interest before that of adult, and in this case, the best interest of the child might indeed be to stay in their current school and environment.

I moved house 7 times, including 3 spells abroad up to 16 years old - I don't feel emotionally damaged........
