Thanks for all suggestions. Wouldnt normally dream of taking a 240 mile journey on a Bank Holiday but no choice
  • Route I have taken a few times, prefer it to the bridge.

    A1, A14, M11, A12 through the blackwall tunnel then A2, M2

Though I would either leave it really late or make a really early start.
That said I know the A12 like the back of my wotsit, the cameras are in really sneaky locations.

Since the OP is going south, towards London, the BH traffic should not be too bad, as most of it will be exiting London and going north.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

That's my usual route from Yorkshire to home in South London since I'm within a few miles of the southern end of Blackwall Tunnel. But I wouldn't head in that far to double-back along the A2.

There's nothing wrong with the cameras on the A12 - it's the way the speed limit bounces between 40 and 50 that catches the unwary.

Yes - GunJack is correct - Alconbury is the junction south of Peterborough then pass along the south side of Huntingdon.

Also remember to watch out for Pulse and Cocktails at various points along the A1 - former Little Chef's turned into Adult Stores. I have never worked out who their clientele is supposed to buy.... lonely truckers? doggers? upstanding members of the community 25 miles away?
I need to think of something new here...
