A1 or M1 this friday
Heading from S. Yorks to Kent this Friday. I can either do the M1 south and have a fairly long drive round the M25 or I can go down the A1 and hit the M25 later on.
Seems a no brainer to use the A1 and reduce the time on the M25... Or is it not that simple? Any frequent travellers out there agree or does anyone say I should go for M1 South rather than A1?

My route would be A1 south to Peterborough; A14 east to Cambridge; M11 south to M25; Dartford Bridge and then into Kent.
A14 does have roadworks but I find that more predictable than M25 and you can often make up the time on the M11 stretch.I need to think of something new here...0 -
Whichever route you take one key thing is to ensure you are aware of how to pay the Dartford Crossing charge.

There are warning signs on the A1.

I used to travel from Lincoln to Kent quite often and that ^ was always my preferred route, on a Friday though, any route won't be fun.0 -

Especially Good Friday.0 -
Let Google sort it out. Although I'd ignore Google & take the A1/A14/M11 as mentioned above. It's much quieter & leaves you with less M25.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Huntingdon, actually...via the A1/A14 link road through Alconbury

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Or even M1 then pick up the A14 at J19 and over to M11.
A large part of it will depend on where in S Yorks you're starting off, and how easy access to M1/A1 are.0 -
