Jet Airways Alternative

Hi,
I have an issue that has JUST come up.
My Jet Airways flight tomorrow at 09.30 from LHR to BOM is being cancelled. An alternative has been offered - (Etihad Airways) indirect, less baggage allowance and landing over 8 hours later.
I have seen other flights - Virgin Atlantic - direct and leaving at 09.30, but with less baggage allowance.
I have requested the Virgin Atlantic flight, citing that the costs that will occur if I take the Etihad flight are unreasonable. Do I have legal grounds to pursue this?
Thank you.

Don't know anything about your legal rights, but if its arriving over 8 hours late you should be entitled to 600 euros, which should cover your costs and leave you with a bit of change
Unless its cancelled due to extraordinary circumstances. What was the reason for the cancellation?

all International Jet flights are cancelled...they are down to a handful of planes (124 planes in December down to 14 now) Etihad own a % hence why you would be offered that.

I would be looking to get something confirmed asap...(accepting that eU261 will not be payable if they go bust)
Maybe look to your travel insurance for the additional costs.0 -
Indian Airline Jet Airways is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. Most of their planes have been grounded or impounded.
I think you have been lucky to have been offered an alternative flight. Take it.
Don't expect EU261 compensation. Jet will probably be bankrupt before you are due to return to the UK. I hope you paid by credit card. You will be able to claim the cost of getting home under S75 if you did. Look out for rescue fares.0 -
They had a B777 impounded at AMS yesterday shortly after it arrived.
I would take the Etihad option and try to minimise your costs. Also secure your BOM/LHR flight if you are returning to the U.K. on Etihad if being offered or you can push for this.
I would not rely on recovering any extra costs from the airline, or receiving EU261 compensation. You might qualify but Jet have no money to pay it so a claim will likely be futile. Jet have, IMO, days to live.0 -
OP I think you need to change your thread title, this problem has nothing to do with Jet 2If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0
-
To clarify, whilst the OP mentions Jet2 in the thread title they are (or were) flying on the Indian carrier Jet Airways. No connection to U.K. carrier Jet2.0

The Virgin flight you have tried to request is the same Jet Airways flight that has been cancelled, codeshare. Take the Etihad flight as offered, reduce your luggage contents if necessary and count yourself lucky.Evolution, not revolution0
-
as above Virgin do not fly to BOM, they sell (sold) codeshare flights on Jet. With the Jet flights being cancelled, those with Virgin tickets will also be cancelled and Virgin no longer offer these on their website0

Looks like all international flights have now been suspended.0 -
