hi, i moved into my flat, my landlord reads the meter and sends me the bill and the meter is locked away so i can not see the reading, i moved in on the 14th february and i was there for 2 days and was away till 31st march, i turned everything off at the plugs including the water boiler, i have had my bill from the date of 13th feb to the 31st march, and the charge is £133 and usage is 935 units, as i was only in the flat for 2 days in that period and my plugs were turned off, it seems very high bill, can anyone advise please

Sends me "A bill", or is it " The bill from the supplier"

Could be there is just one meter in the L/lords name that serves all the flats, and he just divides it Ad Hoc between the flats - Are there Start & End meter readings and dates on the bill?

Private meter? If not, you have a right to view the meter and verify the readings?
What does your STA say about utility bills?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • it says he has read the meter from 13th feb and read meter again 31st march and 935 units have been used

Go back to the LL and ask for a break down / meter numbers etc / point you you were away for x number of days.

Post 5 strongly indicates that there is only one meter for these flats, and the the account is in the landlords name.

On this 935 Kwh bill, what is the stated price per Kwh, the Daily Standing Charge and VAT ?
Landlords with this kind of set-up are not allowed to add a profit
  • price per kwh 12.9p and the standing charge is 5.98 with vat being 5%

Don't know what region you are in, but I'm in the Eastern region and the Kwh price looks like a good deal, and if it were me I wouldn't rock the boat

So does the Standing Charge but this is explained by it being charged per meter - Are there 4 or 5 flats in the the complex ?

I agree with dogshome - the rates being charged are fine.

The question for your L/L is how is the number of units calculated or assessed ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

i am in herefordshire and i believe there are 3 flats in the house, my only concern is the amount of units that were used over a 6 week period, when the flat was empty for all but 2 days of that and everything switched off. plus i have a energy performance certificate that says the estimate for the year usage is 435 units
