O/S Daily Wednesday 10th April 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning :)

Early one for me to hit the road to Manchester. Still pitch black and feels really cold.

I have a feeling thats a very big birthday for Dumpling today so no doubt lots of cake will be consumed but heres one more for the party :bdaycake:

Gers Sorry to hear your mum is back in hospital but you must be relieved she will be getting the care she needs

I spoke to Holly yesterday. She is doing OK although tired all the time. good news is they have decided the radio can finish next weds so knocking a couple of days off the original plan

taff hope your treatment went OK I guess you are going to have to stop rushing around so much for a little while although knowing you...;)

So car park/lunch today is tuna and red onion barm and a scone. How much will last till lunch is as ever debatable. I bought myself a litre flask last week too for coffee so trying that out today. My smaller 500ml one didn't hit the sides in a cold and dreary Manchester car park so hoping this one lasts a bit longer.

Fish pie part two for grub tonight.

Hope everyone has an awesome Thursday

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one, those that are poorly and those looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those who have a birthday x

DH getting ready for work as is DS1, I'm enjoying first cuppas and porridge whilst on here. DS2 is settled and ok.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, I had baked fish with vegetables. I remembered to get the beef out for the beef casserole, and put it in the fridge, and then was going to get it out to defrost overnight, and I've left it in the fridge so it's still frozen, will need to sort dinner. Dinner was going to be beef casserole with sliced potatoes over the top with veg.

I'm now on days' off, and have the normal "to do" list - so will be heading into town to visit the building society and bank first thing. Then I'll need to get going with housework, washing - I have a load ready to peg out on the line now, I think there's only enough for 1 more load, so will strip our bed.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

Bright day here but very cold with a frost, off to work for me today and its bouncy castle day and one of the busiest days of the year for work so it will be hectic.

Dinner tonight will be sausage, egg, bacon, beans and bread and butter a nice easy dinner. Need to do a wash too.

Taff I hope your treatment went well and that you are coping with it all xx

    Poppy thinking of you xx

Gers its probably the best place for mum atm xx

Good morning everyone :hello: and a very Happy Birthday to Meeeeeee!

Yes, I am 50 today and feeling very happy about it. I have had a lovely purse full of money from Steve and a funny card. I asked my children not to buy me a present but to do something for me so Phoebe and Lee have baked cakes for today and Lilly has given the bathroom and loos a very thorough clean, all much appreciated by me I must say.

I am hopefully having friends and family popping in today to share some cakes and a cuppa and Steve is making dinner tonight :D:D:D

It's very quiet here though at the moment as Phoebe and Steve are at work and Lee and Lilly are still asleep. I am up and dressed, ready for the day. I have to cut up some cakes later and put them out ready and have a quick tidy up in the living room but that is all my domestic duties for today.

Hope you all have a great day too and I just wish you all lived near enough to come and have some cake xxx
  • Morning everyone,

A busy day in work yesterday meant I didn't leave till 6.30ish (bear in mind I'm meant to finish at 5). I had yoga at lunch time for 45 minutes then I went to the gym after work again for a short run and some weights. Was totally withering wither to go and I imagined myself sitting on the couch doing nothing and that was the motivation I needed. Taff, I think you might be right, It does sound a bit fitness warrior, but trust me, I'm far from it.

Went to buy tortilla wraps yesterday as the ones I pulled out the freezer had pretty much turned into poppadoms. SM only had beetroot wraps so due to no other options, I've got them. This ruined my NSD, too. Stuck on 5.

I had chicken wings which had been marinading in a homemade blackberry and chipotle jam. Was really nice but despite my sweet tooth, I think I prefer spicy wings! Cauliflower mac 'n' cheese tonight before football training at 9.

    Not much else to report.

Taff - Hope you're doing ok
Holly - Great news. If you're reading, I'm thinking of you
Gers - Sorry to read about DM but as everyone has said, she's in the best place to get better
    Dumpling - Happy birthday !
  • Morning folks and thanks NELSKI. A very Happy Birthday hug for DUMPLING. Have a lovely day amidst friends and family.

I am having a lazy day today. My left hip and knee are giving me grief and kept me awake a lot through the night. So the Oriental Rub is back out and I live in hope that, and my feet up, will help ease it. Shopping day postponed as there is nothing I am stuck fast for.

Nice day out in Otley yesterday, strolling and browsing, then eating, so nothing energetic to aggravate my hip so don't know what set it off. Such fun getting old.

I shall treat myself to a nice piece of the M & S smoked haddock I got the other day for tea. I love smoked haddock, my most favourite food.

I hope GERS DM improves for the hospital stay. I think they send people home too soon these days and they then end up back in again. ((HUGS)) for all else in need of them, especially TAFF, HOLLY and POPPPY. Take care one and all and hope you all manage a nice day xx

    Morning folks.

Happy Birthday Dumpling :bdaycake: - I'm positive that cake improves every day but has added happiness on a birthday.

Nelski - thanks for news of Holly.

DM was eventually moved to a 'medicine for the elderly' ward late lat night. I am content that it is the best place for her, if she had stayed at home she wouldn't have lasted much longer. When she was discharged on 30 March she was walking unsupervised (with a frame) fair distances and had been checked for kitchen safety. The trouble is that she came home and stayed in bed! Anyway, my daily stress levels should be lower for a while at least.

DM's cleaner is coming this morning and I will go into town for a wander around before doing hospital visiting. The sun is out though it's still a bit cold with a promise of heat later. I didn't sleep too well last night, just like TA my right knee and hip are painful and it's so much worse at night, tonight I hope to catch up.

I wish everyone a happy Thursdays, especially to those struggling.

Morning all! Been run over by a bus in the night, and I went to bed early too, also fell asleep in the transport on the way home. It doesn't hurt, and they put a jelly pack on me to fool the machine into thinking it was skin so they dont break my ribs, whch amused me...playing tricks on a very high tech piece of equipment..And they were all so tall! for the first time in my life I felt like a child and I'm not short by any means...I wasn't crass enough to mention it, although I did think it...
More of the same today, earlier too, the times are all over the place, and very early for me on the weekend, when you think it takes an hour to get there, I'm going to be up at stupid o clock just to be awake enough to be ready...I'm complaining, but I'm not complaining if you know what I mean. OH pushed my arm yesterday to see if it made me angry to see if I turned into the Hulk after being radiated. No joy...he has 14 more goes...
Days are a bit all over the place too because Easter is in the way. Not complaining about extra days off :)
OH is thrilled with the echo dot which is good since I primarily bought it so he listen to it and do the dishes, hasn't worked yet, but I live in hope...

Gers, sounds like she's definitely in the best place to get her engine up and running then, and only a little bottle of wine? Wimp! :) Speky, well, with the axe throwing and yoga and boxing and football, I expect to see you endurance running next in a desert or something...How was your nan when you saw her? OL, get your arris boot ready then..TA, hope your hip gets a bit better today, maybe a massage? relaxed muscles might help...redruby, do you play on it too? I would....Holly, excellent news! Nelski, hope the flask hits the spot, except could there be a leetle beet of soething stronger in there ? Not when you're driving of course...You need a chauffeur...I'll apply for the job when I'm well.. gintot, sounds lovely, if I don't say then, have a lovely time now :) nanny, go you!! Lainey, happy haircut! AOD, more hugs, won't be long before we can't see you for the hugs..SO, she's useless then, send her back and get another one...
    Wotcha absentees...
And a very happy birthday to you dumpling, much cake and booze to you!
    Top of the morning Thursday!

Morning all from a very sunny Dundee!

The weather is glorious but still very cold. We visited the V&A yesterday and although it's a stunning building there's nothing much in it! Only took us about half an hour to look round.

Off to St Andrews today, should be lovely in the sunshine.

Happy Birthday dumpling, have a wonderful day and enjoy copious amounts of cake!
    Gers, have a restful day.

    Take care. Xx
