Extra data from three for free

Glenevis posted the text below on another thread. I keep getting this message on my phone and would like someone to explain to me how this works please.
I’m a three PAYG user, I don’t use my phone very much but will be using it more in the future so this sounds as though it would benefit me.
If I send for this sim does this then replace the sim already in my phone and will it just add to my credit balance which I top up when it gets down to about £10. I can keep my phone number obviously but what else am I required to do to get extra data for free each month.
============
“Personally I use Three Free Data Reward SIMs (as mentioned above). I have a few in my spare phones for various projects. Cost £0. You have to register to get the 200MB data every month, just use some data before 180 days to keep getting the free data. I had one SIM I forgot to use for months, it still worked but I lost the free monthly data allowance (no problem, just ordered another).”
=============
Many thanks

You’ll have to try and explain a little better, your post isn’t making a lot of sense to me.====0 -
The new sim comes with a new number, you can't just stick it in your phone and expect it to pick up the existing account.
As you are 3 PAYG I don't think you can port the number to a new 3 PAYG sim0 -
Your phone number and credit balance of the account are on your SIM, not your handset. If you replace it with a new SIM you will then have that SIM's phone number, and zero balance until topped up. You cannot 'merge' two separate accounts, if that's what you mean (?).Evolution, not revolution0

This is as far as I can understand it myself something that three offer as additional data to a three PAYG customers phone for one month at a time.
I also don’t understand it which is why I asked the question.
If as you are suggesting, I can’t use my original phone and number to get this extra data then I don’t think it will be much use for me. I may perhaps pm Glennevis as he/she seems to use this.
Thanks for the replies and sorry if my post was confusing.0 -

Thanks for that, the idea of free data appeals but not with the hassle of telling all the institutions like banks etc that I have a new number.
We’ve recently been burgled and have now decided to have an alarm installed in the house. This comes with a phone app which is now downloaded onto both our phones so that if away from the house we can be notified if the home alarm has been activated and can re set it via the app. I think That now we will both be using our phone more than our previous tiny usage.
I’m not sure how much data we will use just checking the app and resetting the alarm via the app but will monitor my credit and usage for a month and then make a decision about getting a cheap monthly contract, although our current Three provider don’t do a particularly cheap monthly one. The home phone and internet are on talk talk so that could be the way for us to go if PAYG proves to be eating the data.
Thanks for clarifying what this free sim actually does.0
