Using a PPI Company, for ONLY Searching if you have PPI

Reputable PPI companies offer to claim for you, (who do a No win, no pay offer, (eg they take 20% of your amount)
who offer to do these things
STEP 1 Search your finance products (Credit cards, loans, etc) for if you have PPI.... where they send you forms to sign, for approval for them to go ahead.
and then 2)
STEP 2 Claim for your PPI which you were mis sold
a) Then is it worth using them just to do part 1)
b) If they do part 1), and just find out if you have claims in your past financial products, then is there more chance of the company the information they require? (ie that there was a PPI claim)
c) If they do part 1), and just find out if you have claims in your past financial products, then is there more chance of the company
getting past the creditors (who sometimes will NOT let out that there was PPI, as they don't want to pay out)
d) If OPTION 1) The claim company do step 1 (just seeing if you have a PPI claim), or OPTION 2) You do this step 1 yourself
(without the PPI claim company) This is there more chance of getting the information if the company does it?
as they are used to the procedure, and know how to get information out of them?
as many banks will Fob of claimants, (as they do NOT want to pay)
e) Have you used a PPI company Just for step 1, finding out if you have a PPI claim?/ how did it go?
Can you get back if you know any of the answers, in a) b) c) d) e) format, for simplicity,
thank you in advance.

The simple answer is just don't use one at all.
The banks won't fob you off, but the claims companies will.0 -
Oh sorry... was that a serious question?
Simple answer do it yourself far easier, cheaper and less likely to harm your complaint than using a CMC.
They cannot ‘search’ for PPI you will tell them who you think you may have had it with and they will simply ask... cut out the middle man, most lenders have dedicated online portals or emails to use it really is so simple.0 -

Thanks guys.
a) As for using these online portals, What details of the claimant do these online portals require? that you have to type in?
b) Do they give an 'accurate' yes/no that you have had PPI on the credit card/loan etc?
c) how do you know if the yes/no is accurate?
eg, if you do it via the online portal, and it generates a NO, how do you know this is accurate, and NOT a way to try and hide that you actually have PPI? (on the basis the bank does not want to dish out?)
or when you email them, (the bank) they might say NO you don't have it, when you actually do, to stop wanting to pay out)?
d) Is there a list of these online portals of All major banks/and credit cards? (on a site)
or they are to be searched individually?0 -
You fill out your details and they'll let you know if you had PPI.
If they're keen to pay a large fine to the regulator then they'll tell you no when you did have it.
If they are keen to hold on to their banking licence, they'll tell you yes if you had it.
A claims company will always tell you that you had it, whether you did or not.0 -
Your financial information is not in the public domain so there is no way for a claims firm to find out if you had it beyond sending a letter to every firm in existence and hoping to get lucky. All they will say is you had it if you ever banked with any of the major firms and then hope to get lucky

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

if you didn't have a PPI claim to claim, why do they tell you - you have one? what do they get out of it?sending a letter to every firm in existence and hoping to get lucky. All they will say is you had it if you ever banked with any of the major firms and then hope to get lucky
If we claim ourselves without a company, would it be the same, applying 'hoping' to get lucky? (so something can be claimed?)0 -

You complain, not claim, using the same process as the CMCs - establish if you had it, put in your complaint reasons and supporting evidence and see what the lender says.
When establishing using the online portals of the banks (their individual ones)
are their responses instant? or they will get back to you in days via email / letter?0 -

The staff on the phone line are targetted to get people to sign up. The ones with the most signed up each week win a prize. The bottom one gets picked on and potentially loses their job.
