Ours was a tax mistake, we didn't have to send any paperwork or receipts. (weird IK).
The Hmrc call centres can't do anything, once its gone to checks.
I would phone them and ask who has it been past to, & if a letter a has been sent to you and when.

I would suggest make sure all your tax is paid correctly, & you havent made a mistake with your earnings, cause they know what you have earnt etc. These are the main reasons it gets picked up for security checks.
They will send you a letter with a contact number for a adviser, who tells you why it's been checked & want you need to do. Tbf they are brilliant.

If you do get a letter, phone them ASAP.

     Hope this helps.

It’s supposed to be random however if you pay tax through CIS you’re more likely to be selected, the checks are to make sure what you’ve declared is what’s been paid etc

Yes you did!! And as I said go HMRC this morning it’s supposed so be random so out of millions of people how can I be picked twice in 3 years and that’s when they said it’s more likely if you are with the CIS scheme

Hmrc are notorious for telling lies to get people off the phone. I honestly believe we are all now undergoing checks... with the amount of people they have not processed we will be lucky to get out rebate in 2022
