My wife uses an iphone 4s for calls/texts/broadband internet etc but she doesn’t have ‘mobile data’. She uses WhatsApp through our home broadband connection. WhatsApp has been functioning perfectly since the app was first installed over a year ago.

Our son recently had a problem with his iphone 6s and he borrowed my wife’s phone for a few hours. He used the sim-card from his iphone 6s in my wife’s iphone 4s. All worked ok;...he used the iphone 4s for calls/texts/mobile data/broadband internet,...but he didn’t use WhatsApp.

However, when my wife’s sim card was re-inserted into her iphone 4s a few hours later all was ok except that WhatsApp doesn’t function anymore. All the other Apps are working ok.

When opening WhatsApp we just get a blank white screen for a few seconds,... then it goes back to home screen. WhatsApp has been deleted and downloaded again (several times) from App Store but still not working. The phone has been powered off/on several times but the problem persists.

In ‘Settings>Notifications’ there is no 'WhatsApp' icon,... I think(???) there should be.. All the other App icons appear in 'Notifications'.

Any suggestions how WhatsApp can be resurrected on this iphone 4s please?

As ever, all advice gratefully received.

First off , massive +1 for your username - that had me in stitches :rotfl:

Second , what method are you using to remove the Whatsapp app from the iphone ?
Are you just holding it down and clicking the little x ?

    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Storage & iCloud Usage
    4. Under the Storage heading, tap on Manage Storage
    5. Wait for your list of apps to populate
    6. Select Whatsapp
    7. Tap on the red Delete App option
    8. At the next prompt, tap OK
    9. Exit Settings
    10. Reboot your iPhone (press the Power and Home buttons for about 10 secs)

Thanks for the info;...however, followed the instructions implicitly, then reloaded from App Store.,....problem still persists.:(

I'm stumped atm ..would a full reset be advisable?...what are the implications?

P.S. The version of WhatsApp that it’s downloading is 2.19.40 App Size: 81.4MB
The version that was on before the problem was 2.19.31 App Size 80.7MB

    Its a strange one this

If you double tap the home button, does a whatsapp screen show in the list of running programs ?
If so, swipe up to get rid of it, and try to open whatsapp again

Yes,... the WhatsApp icon appears top left,.. but below it is just a blank white screen. Swiping up closes it ,...but the problem persists when WhatsApp is re-selected.

Try deleting the app and then a hard reset and then reinstall, press and hold the home and power button until the phone switches off and then switches back on to the Apple logo, release the buttons when the logo appears. Try reinstalling once the phone is back to the home screen.

If that doesn’t work you may well have to reset the phone to factory and start again, you’ll lose all user data, pics etc, unless you have a recent backup.

Perhaps ‘WhatsApp’ has somehow associated itself with my wife’s iphone 4s and my son’s mobile phone number in the few hours that he was using it?...and the whole thing has got its knickers in a twist now that my wifes original sim-card has been re-inserted.

Could it be something to do with that?...I’m on very unsure ground and clutching at straws tbh.
