We've told you what to do. Either return it following their returns procedure and take your chances or accept that you've used it beyond what's reasonable and keep the phone.

Not sure what more we can tell you.
From their responses on Messenger, I doubt they'd take it back. Certainly not that way.

Having a quick play in a store, to me, isn't enough to know if a phone will "work" for you but I do understand that the phone would, in its opened condition, now be classed as unsellable to the retailer.
Then how can you expect them to accept a return? Do they just stomach the loss?

I'd sell it on eBay / Facebook etc and try exploring the potential next handset a little more before purchase next time - if a friend has the phone you want to buy, as if you can meet for a coffee / beer and have a play about :)

They have no choice but to take it back. Whether they give you a full refund is the question.

If you take out a contract with Vodafone (not sure if it only applies online) they offer a 30 day policy where you can return the phone and unwind the contract.

I recently did this from an upgrade from a sim only to the Huawei mate something or other, i was trying to leave Apple but found after a week I preferred iOS and returned the phone. It cost me a week of airtime at the higher rate, otherwise I didn't pay a penny extra for that 'experiment'. It was hassle free and I wasn't challenged on it at all.

Perhaps Vodafone's offer will suit your shopping method?

I know people mock TV shopping channels, but QVC accept 'change of mind' returns for just the price of the postage.

I bought my Galaxy S9+ from them for over £100 cheaper than John Lewis, 4 months interest free credit, and the option of returning it (even if used) within the first 30 days. What's not to like?

Of course, I could have bought it for a few £s cheaper from a website I'd never heard of....... or from a mail order catalogue that charges stupid % interest.
