I look after someone who is disabled and looking into getting carers allowance but i am also working part time and i earn just over the £123 allowance, Would i not be eligible?
On the website it says you cant earn more than £123 a week after tax and expenses but what actually is classed as expenses?

Expenses are that which can be offset with your tax allowance, e.g. cleaning of a uniform but not travel to regular place of employment. See here

Are you in a low income household and eligible for Universal Credit. UC can include a carer element with no earnings limit?

Is the person you are caring for receiving the appropriate benefit - PIP daily living, DLA mid/high rate care/AA?

if they are and you care for them at least 35 hrs a week then you can claim the Carer's element in Universal Credit without having to claim CA and there are no restrictions of hours worked/earnings as with CA.

Of course any earnings will be taken into account with UC.

Put your details into the benefit calculator on https://www.entitledto.co.uk to find out how much you might be able to claim.

However if you are over the earnings limit you cannot claim Carers Allowance.

The person who is doing the caring is the one who claims the Carers Allowance - assuming they meet the criteria.

You can pay someone to do the caring out of your own money. £50 won't go far, though, given the NMW.
