thats good to hear, my wife is stubborn - why I do not know.

My stance is leave all flooring and carpets to do myself, get uprated USB socket in kitchen and do the rest myself - leave the kitchen worktop alone and upgrade to quartz later.

The wife wont like the sound of it but she might like the money saved? I have not touched the wardrobes but find it hard to stomach the prices DWH would charge.

Shame you cannot get hold of some Monopoly notes or similar - make a pile of them and set fire to them with the wife watching and say something like "if we go for the options offered this is what we will be doing with real money, burning it away"

That's what my friend did a few years ago when he got a new build, saved a lot of money and arguments.

We didn't even look at the cost DW would charge for fitted wardrobes but i'd imagine loads. Got bog standard wardrobes which we will take with us and use for starters until we get sorted on doing wardrobes once we are settled. Good luck with it all. Out of curiosity, what region?

Can you make a list of what these jobs will cost you if you/mates do it. Estimate how much DWH will charge (phone and ask, even if another site).

Two columns, total underneath. In the middle, show the difference.

Get times when it can be done. Plan it.

Hopefully with it all in front of her face, she will listen. No promises though lol.

so, things not going well with the OH - as in she wants nothing to do with the house if i got someone else to fit tiles.
Her concern is damage to property, warranty or generally some botched job - she wants DWH to complete it from start to finish including all the tiling and wardrobes - the tiles is the guts of £5k and add a few more k for the wardrobes, I have not got quotes from others but would expect to get these things done considerable less.
    she is stubborn unfortunately!

Would the promise of a holiday with the money saved be enough to tempt her...

The Caribbean is very nice this time of year, even better at Christmas!

You could be away whilst your house is upgraded and she can come back to it looking lovely...

Seriously though is it perhaps the work and disruption she doesn't want once shes moved in?

...and there really is a far better choice of carpets flooring and tiles around than just the few samples DWH have.

I'd get the worktops added in at a push because you do need those asap, but have everything else done separately. Why pay over the odds when they put in something everyone else who gets upgrades will also have? Make your house different, and pay less to do so. The prices charged are scandelous and they're often not upgrades but things those renovating a home would choose to have put in, or a normal standard (as opposed to cheapest of the cheap)

If your wife is concerned about bodged jobs then why are you buying a new build....they have many...

Tell her you have to change to the cheaper properties on site as the addons take you over budget.

    She does earn money?

What's she going to be like when the cracks start?

Has she started picking the new furniture yet?
