Peter Oborne, Daily Mail columnist, ardent Brexiteer is having second thoughts

He went even further on LBC a while ago.

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

expected a lot of blame casually thrown by a Leaver onto the EU side.
found none of that.
what parallel universe am I living in?0 -
If a democracy cannot change its mind, it ceases to be a democracy.

Peter Oborne, Daily Mail columnist, ardent Brexiteer is having second thoughts
Although he has said his argument for leaving the EU is complete nonsense (and we would have told him that three years ago if he'd been capable of listening), he isn't actually saying he has changed his position. He now wants to leave at a future date, as if he wants time to come up with reasons to leave that he is comfortable to admit.
Working for a paper that used deceit and extreme language to sell the referendum and then telling people they are wrong for doing the same thing. He hasn't redeemed himself quite yet.0 -

On CH4 News tonight he said "I was wrong". I think he doesn't say everything he thinks. He seems to be a shrewd operator and my take is that he wants other Leavers to join him, if only in spirit. If he goes completely "Remain" in one go, this might be a step too far for those Leavers now considering whether they should have second thoughts.
I have heard Oborne talk on LBC and Channel 4 News today and must say I was quite impressed by his well-reasoned, and very humble, stance. Hats off to him for outing himself so eloquently and publicly. He could have just kept it to himself, but he didn't, and for that I give him credit (which is highly unusual for me when it comes to Brexiters).

I like how the shrieking Leaver woman fails in her attempt to shut him up. She even goes as far as saying "Every single Brexit voter is supporting no deal", which is a clear lie.
I also like Peter Oborne's tie. Carefully selected for today, no doubt :rotfl:0 -

I know several leave voters who have said they've changed their mind and regret voting leave.
I agree with her "you must have known before". It seems like he was blind to facts by his desire to leave, which I think he did have in common with a lot of other leave voters.
Her argument of "we've not had brexit yet" is interesting because apparently that argument doesn't count for anything remain said would happen. It only counts in regards to leave.0 -

I know many remain voters who have changed their minds and just wish that the MPs would get on with pushing Brexit through.0 -

I don't believe you. If you voted remain then switching to leave because of how parliament is handling brexit actually makes no sense.
Maybe if literally everything that was told by the leave campaign hadn't turned out to be a complete lie then you might be able to have some credibility ever, but that ship has sailed.0 -

It's interesting to see Melissa Kite literally standing next to someone who's saying he's changed his mind & then stating that she's never met a Leave voter who's changed their minds.0
