Well done Shaggy and Maman, and everyone else that's on target.

Thank you all for your kind words; all the animals are hard work at one stage or another, but they are all more than worth it. Each one gives us something unique and very, very special back. Neither of us would be without them for the world, and I'm defo one of those people who prefers animals to people on a day to day basis. Animals never, ever let you down.

As to insurance Maggie, I've always self-insured for cats, and used to for the dogs, but Kelpie arrived with free-to-me 28 day cover because he was an RSPCA centre rescue dog and I ummed and aaaahed for the full four weeks before deciding to carry on. He was about £38 a month - which is a HUGE amount - with an excess of over £100 per condition per year BUT the reason Petp1an is so expensive is that the animals are insured for life - the premiums don't go up if you claim. Layla's £35+ per month and she's three years younger than Kelpie when I first had him. I started my research by using this site, and reading around the subject was incredibly helpful before I started getting alternative quotes. There was a huge difference; one company quotes a low figure, but the small print includes the caveat that they take 13 premiums a year, so four weekly instead of monthly, and unsurprisingly they've got a shockingly bad reputation when it comes to claims. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

If I were choosing pet insurance on price alone I wouldn't have chosen Petp1an initially, but my choice wasn't about price alone. I phoned the vets and asked them which insurance companies they'd had problems with and which ones were easy to deal with, and from that the choice became very obvious. Luckily for me, the practice also submits all my claims electronically, so I clear the credit card, cough up (and cough at the size of the bills) and then periodically talk to their vet nurse who does the claims. Within 24 hours I get a text from Petp1an to say they've received the claim. If they're going to pay it, they usually do so within 3 - 5 days.

There was one claim that went astray after Kelpie died (I had four in at the time - he was a very poorly dog in the end, although cheerful and full of love for everyone) and after an intial communication problem I have to say their Customer Service people couldn't have been kinder or more efficient. (By the time he died his monthly premium was £45 and I claimed far more back than I ever paid in premiums.)

I honestly think it's worth paying more monthly for their level of service; I can't fault them.

I weighed myself after all the palavar last week - I lost a kilo in 48 hours and it's stayed off! 66.6 kgs, I'm pleased to say. (I literally didn't have time to eat, and by the time I remembered I should I was in bed and couldn't be bothered to get up and go and find anything.)

    23/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

Good evening everyone! 19/28, please Shaggy.
  • Morning! 23/28 for me please.

HB: we have PP cover for the geriatric cat, they are so good to deal with and he's certainly be uninsurable by anyone else! I would 100% use them again.
