2/5 for SNC and 10/10 for April challenge please Shaggy. Thank you. x
  • I am going to finish April on 28/27 thank you.

I am going to aim for 6 months AF, starting now. It may not be exactly 6 months to the day but I am going to hold out till the end of October. I know there is a school of thought not to set an over-ambitious target, as to fail could be discouraging and self-defeating, however I did 3 moths AF last summer and I’m confident that I should be able to better that.

The only hurdle I think will be a real problem for me is a holiday in June. Being away in itself is not the issue, but getting there is; I am a terrible flyer. I just really, really do not like it and normally by the end of the flight I am struggling, and always just head straight to the nearest bar when I get off the plane.

There are some canny people on this thread, does anyone have tips for dealing with flying, for those who don’t like it? (Alternatives to flying are unrealistic for the distance involved. I don’t want to try hypnosis or anything that drastic.)

Anyway I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself so please put me down for 31/31 in May, I will take this month by month.
  • Finishing for the month on 29/25.

Seasonofmist: good luck for the new challenge. Is there another treat you can promise yourself when you've got off the flight?

Good luck with the journey to Vietnam AnnieG, hope it's a fantastic life change for you.

Hope your 6 months AF goes well seasonofmist, sounds like a great idea and I would join you if I felt I was up to the challenge!

    Thanks for the birthday wishes all, didn't feel like drinking as we stayed in. Might have been different if had gone out, but OH cooked me a lovely meal and even backed a chocolate cake. Impressed with the skills I never knew he had in our 17 years together! So calling early for tonight to incentivise me;

Happy belated birthday, Green Karen! :bdaycake:
Congrats on the London Marathon, Barny. :T:T:T
Sorry the move's now feeling a bit challenging, Love a Sale, but at least you're going to a house you actually like. Moving's an ending which can be tricky to navigate emotionally, but it's also a new beginning, an Event Horizon, so it could be a marvellous experience and opportunity. Good luck with it and I hope it goes smoothly (((Hugs)))
Good luck with the Six Month Challenge, Seasons of Mist. You know which target to set is right for you. The people that worry me are the ones that jump in never having posted or tried adjusting their drinking habits before and then fall by the wayside. You know what you're doing. I'm sorry I haven't any sage words about flying.

30/30 please, Shaggy and thank you both for doing the scoring. This thread wouldn't be what it is without you and Cathy Bird.
    Better is good enough.

Some really good scores for April, especially considering Easter. I like the end of the month when they all start rolling in.:)

I like your idea of having a dual target season of mists: a long term aim broken down into a month at a time. Good luck!:) I've no real advice about flying either as it doesn't bother me but I think it's a positive that you don't feel the need to drink on the flight. Hopefully you can get cleared through passports and luggage quickly and then promise yourself some other treat, like Glenda said, when you get to your accommodation.

    How's Layla doing HB?:)

I'm out tonight and driving so no drinking even considered.

13/10 AFDs please Shaggy and 2/4 for the SNC.

She's still got a gippy tummy, unfortunately. I've been in London over the weekend and I'd hoped it would have calmed down by the time I got back, but sadly not. I'm not sure she's entirely trustworthy around the cats when it's playing up but we're managing that.

Other than that, she's a lovely little dog. It's all a bit surprising, to be honest. We adopted her from this rescue having searched for three months for a dog that was cat friendly along with the right personality. We didn't meet her before we went to collect her (it's over three hours drive away); you just take the description on trust and hope their assessment is accurate. They're amazingly good at what they do but I wouldn't recommend them for a people who haven't had a dog before; their dogs are all from backgrounds that guarantee they'll need a huge amount of TLC to feel secure and be truly happy. We're at the stage where we need to start work on the prevention of separation anxiety, a long and slow process.

I've had four dogs over the past 10 years from various places, all Oldies, as well as growing up with dogs and even I struggle with every adoption. She's coming on but it's very early days and it'll be at last six months before her real personality blossoms. In the meantime she's a happy little soul, who now seems to recognise her name - that's a start! It'll be a long time before she can be let off the lead, so I'm going to take her to a secure field for a bit of running around, which I think she badly needs. Not entirely sure that I'll be able to catch her after she's had a taste of freedom though!
