Thanks everyone for their kind comments. It has made me rethink and realise if I thought carefully, I can still reach target. And even if I don't, then I am doing better by just trying to cut down rather than doing nothing.

I do feel that I have slipped into midweek drinking and that it makes me feel as if I've failed, but at least I am "thinking" about it rather than mindlessly drinking.

While my children are away, I am working pretty much full time (I usuallly work four days) and so my plan will be not to drink the night before I am working.

I am going away next weekend, but it is taking my dad to where he spent his childhood (I think to make peace with it, but that sounds a bit too scary as there's nothing imminent wrong with him) and I am the driver (mainly why he asked me to come) and so I won't be drinking much.

Still don't want to set a target as I have the latter part of the month off work when my children get back and I want to be able to enjoy it and even I appreciate this doesn't have to involve drinking. One of our days out planned is a theme park, so I would be sensible to avoid drinking the night before!

I drank last night and am currently enjoying a beer as I am having a nothing day, but I intend no drinking Sunday to Thursday (4am wake up Friday for a flight!).

    back again!

I've got to read through the thread since last posting but will get onto that. Waving to you Pollyanna!

Okay .... July ended with 17/25, hmmm.... oh well, onwards!
I won't set a target for August, thanks Shaggy, as I'm just going to concentrate on one day at a time. Won't be having any alcohol tonight so 3/TF.

3/22 for August please Shaggy. Thank you. X
Maman I know just what you mean about weekends and drinking. Logically it shouldn't be any different from week days but it is. It probably wouldn't work for you if you are trying to lose weight but I deal with Fridays and Saturdays (if I'm not going out) by having a chocolate bar to look forward to (usually a Snic**rs :o) during the evening. We no longer have wine with our dinner so once that's over I'm generally not feeling the 'pangs'. However you approach it, good luck. X

There's no real reason why Friday (or the weekend in general) should be any different to any other day.

But they are! My weekend starts on Friday morning because OH goes out with a walking / running / swimming group for at least a couple of hours and that's when I'm at my most relaxed for some reason. So that's when my weekend begins. No accounting for it, but there it is.

Just read this. I'm a huge Jack fan, but I know she's marmite. I saw her Ted Talk a year or so ago and the first thing she did was say she'd just come out of the pub for a pre-talk stiffner - the signs were there for everyone to see. I hope she's doing okay.

    4/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

4/22 for August please Shaggy. If there is a SNC this week 1/5 for that. Thank you. X
  • Calling in very early today, 5/31. Today is significant for me as I am now at 100 days consecutive AF.
While I am looking at my numbers, I have checked back and think I have drank on just 10 days so far since Jan 1st, and nothing at all since 27 April. This means I’ve had over 200 days AF this year and counting (think we are up to 215 days so far) I’m not setting a yearly total but I am very encouraged by that.

I have had a few days when I have really wanted a cold glass of beer, mostly on the very hot evenings sitting in the garden, or when I was away on holiday, but honestly it has not been a struggle at all and I am in the mindset now where I look forward to an AF weekend, it’s nice to wake up on Sunday with a clear head and it’s good to come into work on Monday morning and not feel like I’m moving in slow motion. It has definitely helped to keep the weight off as well, although maybe not as much as I’d hoped, I have been compensating for cold beer on the really hot evenings with ice cream, which is probably something else I should knock on the head really.

    Well done SOM.:T I'm glad you're 'encouraged' by your totals. I think they're amazing!:D

I take your point about 'the weekend starts here' HB. It doesn't have to be synonymous with wine o'clock. :o

    No drinking planned here today.

    3/10 AFDs please Shaggy.

Congrats Season of Mist - you're doing so well :T:T:T Re the ice cream, don't worry too much - as Honey Bear always says, only try to give up one thing at a time!
