Orange merge with EE threatens to compromise my current Orange plan

I just recieved a letter from Orange (dated 1st April!) stating that they are "...officially bringing Orange and EE together. So we are closing our old Orange plans and switching all our customers to EE ones" It also goes on to say that "Not much will change, and you don't need to do anything."

I have had an Orange SIM-only account for years. It comes with 500mb of data, 1000 minutes & 'unlimited texts per month, and cost me currently £2.57 - a figure that I once negotiated as a result of poor customer service. As you can imagine I have been continually delighted with this deal.:beer:

According to the letter, the new EE plan will give me 300mb of data, 500 minutes & unlimited texts per month for a cost of £5.99! :exclamati

So they are substituting my old plan with significantly degraded service and charging me more than double for it.

I haven't yet contacted them about this but, my question to the community is: Are they legally allowed to do this and do I have a leg to stand on?

With sufficient advance notice they are allowed to do whatever they want.
You are allowed to vote with your feet if you don't like what they do.

Great... endless new threads from people who've enjoyed the previous benefits for years and can't understand that a contract is a contract including the t&c which means it can change or be taken away altogether.

Thanks to those of you who responded helpfully. I'm now wondering if anyone has stories of any degree of success in negotiating better terms with EE as a result of pushing back on these "Not much will change" changes?

Most companies are open to negotiation, why don't you contact EE and find out?

So anyway, a bit for light haggling with EE was able to get me unlimited minutes & texts and 500mb of data (enough for my purposes) for a 12 month contract at £5 per month. So all in all a bit more for s bit less. Not as good as my original Orange deal (for me) but how could it be? Of I make the effort to get rid of the land line now I would come out of it all better off.

Or you could have got a better bundle with a cheap phone for £4.50 after cashback.
