I suspect the tracking number is false because a signed for item let’s you see that it has entered the RM system and at what time.0

Only if it's scanned at a Post Office, perfectly normal to post Signed For but hand mail to the Royal Mail delivery office where it won't be scanned.
How much of a bargain was it OP? If we are taking 4.99 instead of £20 then maybe it's someone not knowing what they doing, if it was £499 instead of £1200 for example then it's likely a scam and the items don't exist.
If it is scam the tracking will just be to delay suspicion and most importantly negative feedback so they get a few more sales under their belt before the account goes belly up.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

It sounds like the ETA has past and you've opened a non-receipt request, after 8 days you should be able to ask eBay to step in and they'll refund.
Don't let the seller talk you in to closing the request, although I doubt you'll hear anything from them.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
You’ll mean signed for. Recorded doesn’t exsist no more.
That is a signature confirmation yes, no tracking information.
However it should state what time and where it was posted so you know when that took place.
If the estimated delivery time has elapsed which I’m guessing it has as you say you have opened a case then that was probably the next logical step.
Bear in mind though I’ve had 2nd class items arrive in 2 days but also 4, 6 and 8 before.
Only if sent via a post office/delivery office0 -
If delivery is overdue, I don't know why you are messing around, just open 'item not delivered' dispute on ebay.
Get your money back.

Was just advising off my own experience, every time I have used signed for in a PO branch, I have always been able to see within minutes that it was in the system.0 -

That's fine but it's important to expand such things as someone may read that statement and then think something is awry with an order they have at some point because their signed for parcel hasn't been scanned into the system when it may be perfectly normal. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

I used the word "should" not "it must".0 -

Buyers are well covered by eBay policies - more so than sellers. Just open a "where is my item?" claim.0
