Audi Extended Warranty

Anyone got any thoughts on this - value for money etc? I'm out of manufacturer's warranty and done 38000 miles, so for a £250 excess I'm looking at £53 pm for the 'all components' cover. Thanks.

I love the way everybody now quotes monthly prices, simply because they don't sound very much.

For £636 each year, you'll have to pay the first £250 of any bill.

Or, to put it another way - to break even, you'll need at least one £886 bill per year (or two £568 bills, or three £462 bills...) on top of routine maintenance and wear and tear, just things breaking prematurely.

Sounds like a hideously unreliable and expensive to run car, tbh.

Plus he need to make sure he service it judiciously at the main dealers always and there will be a long list of things not covered plus"wear and tear" get out clause.

So if there is a 50:50% chance any repair will be covered, he need to multiply the above by 2.

OP, it will be better to get a monthly saving account and save the £53 every month.

Okay, so not good value, you think? Another factor to consider is the price of repairs - these tend to be expensive for Audi, but I take your point. Thanks.

    OK, so it's a 3.5yo 2.0 diesel Audi...
    A1? A3? Q3? A4? A5? Q5? A6? A7? Q7? TT? I probably missed a few possibilities, given how convoluted their range is...

Most of the bits are exactly the same as VW, Seat, Skoda anyway. Any garage can work on 'em.

At 38,000 miles I doubt it is going to have any faults costing more than £250, especially if you don't use a main dealer. I doubt very much its going to have over £600 of repairs.

You'll find that when you look at the details that the majority of things that are likely to need doing like brake pads and discs are excluded.

I have owned three of those and have always found them to be reliable. Audi is not a cheap car to buy or own but with fixed price servicing for 3years old + price match maintenance is reasonable.

Unless you abuse the car you would be very unfortunate to need repairs costing £886 per year. However it's your call. Like any insurance policy, one would hope never to claim and you might value the peace of mind that you can. :A

I used to renew the genuine Audi warranty on mine when it was new enough, but I don't recall there being an excess back then. I'd been looking after company cars and my MD also had an Audi, with a warranty, and they covered some fairly expensive repairs without asking us for anything. At the time, third-party warranties often required shorter servicing intervals, and had claim limits and excesses - the Audi policy then had a claim limit which was the retail value of the car.

It sounds as if the terms have changed since then.
  • Thanks all for the advice and suggestions. It's an Audi A4 20.0 TDI. I'm having second thoughts about the warranty. It's an extended warranty offered by Audi, covering all components apart from the obvious. It does look good, but as mentioned, it could be poor value for money. Still not sure what to do …..
