We went to the eiffel tower in the evening, it's great seeing it all lit up..and if it's 9pm 10pm or 11pm you get a five minute light show. It's not too busy then either.

You can visit the Louvre grounds without going in, you don't really have enough time in two days to spend time inside. If you get a metro pass you can see the main sites in that time but look at a metro/bus map to plan your journeys. You can get a bus from outside the musee d'orsay up the Champs elyses to the monument at la Defense then get back on the bus to come back down. You get some great views, especially in December when things will be lit up for Christmas. The Champs Elyses looks magical!

go to the artists quarters..monterparsse, you have to walk through it to get to the sacre couer - which is also worth a visit. there's a lovely market there too.
i second that, my fave area of paris.
  • Many Thanks people! It's a great resource and helps in planning the trip.

I was thinking of spending Saturday in Disneyland, and sunday on a Full Day Paris Tour by Paris Vision which includes a visit to Louvre, a cruise on River Seine and Lunch on the 1st Floor at Eiffel Tower. Apparently, it last 7 hours and they also cover all the important monuments in Paris.

A one day hopper ticket (For both Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios) costs £30.95 at 365tickets, the cheapest I have seen and a Full Day Paris Tour with Paris Vision costs 99 Euros. The only other issue is getting to Disneyland from Gare Du Nord station as my Hotel is closeby. I don't want to buy a Paris Visite pass as I spend a whole day in Disneyland and the next day on the tour. What tickets would you recommend for me and my girlfriend to get to Disneyland and back and how much would it cost?

I will surely try to fit in Sacre Couer once our day trip is done. I am looking forward to the bus ride musee d'orsay up the Champs elyses to the monument.

A really nice way to see some of the major sites is to take the Batobus from one of various departure points along the Seine - Eiffel Tower, Musée D'Orsay, Notre Dame, jardin des Plantes, Louvre, Champs Elysée, Hotel de Ville. You buy a daily pass for around 15 euros and can get on and off wherever you please. Much less cheesy than the Bateau Mouches dinner cruises. Start by taking the Metro to Pont Marie and go to the Isle St Louis -the littlest of the two islands in the Seine. Check out the bars, boutiques interesting shops and architecture and head for an ice cream - yes I know its winter but really not to be missed- at Berthillon one of the best in France!!!! Cross the little bridge at the end of rue st louis en l'isle and you'll be at the back of notre Dame. Get on the batobus here or at Hotel de Ville where you began the journey. Wish I was going!! Anyway you'll have a great time whatever you do!

    Sorry, not yet.

The BBC article says that a good number of the train services are back to normal. I don't know about RER or Metro though - last I heard there were a couple an hour, or something.

Either way a lot of central Paris is within walking distance; it may just take a bit longer :p

sidenote - the strikes are a pain in the !!!!. I hope they end soon as they are playing havok with my social life!
  • The Transport strike is worrying, though am going only on 14th December Evening!

I am planningt to fly there from Glasgow Prestwick by Ryan air with another friend for a 2D 1N trip. Can anyone tell me how much would it cost and best way from the airport to the city of Paris? Websites quote expensive rates but one of my friend said it is 15 euro for the whole day and can you use that from the airport to Paris?

I could do with some help! :D
