Looking for advice please on whether it's worth my mum making a will. Here are the facts:
63 years old
Divorced (with consent order)
Doesn't own her own home
Has £45,500 in savings and £57,800 in a SIPP
Has 1 child (me) who she wants to leave everything to
No grandchildren or parents, just 1 brother who she is happy to leave everything to if I die first

And if your uncle and you die before your mum what then ?
I think it goes to your uncles childrenNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
I would suggest she does, to make sure her wishes are carried outBreast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

But if she doesn't mind the rules of intestacy? I guess that's why I'm asking if a will is necessary in this case.
Are there any other positives that would come from making a will, given that I think I'm right in saying someone would have to apply to be an administrator of the estate anyway, similar to having to apply for probate if there was a will.0 -
I can't see any real benefit in a will. Has she nominated you to the SIPP provider as beneficiary of the SIPP?0

A properly drawn will makes it clear to everybody how a person wishes to distribute their estate. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

If she's talked it through with you and your uncle I can't see why she doesn't have it put in writing.0

My mother wouldn't make a Will because it was 'unlucky'. She trusted my dad to do the right thing and leave the house equally to me and my sister. Dad left the house to my sister, on the grounds that it was her home and that she was ill. He trusted her to leave the house to me (she was, in fact, very ill).
She went bankrupt within 18 months and lost the house to the OR.0 -
When my Mum passed away I took her will with me when I notified the bank of her death, together with the death certificate and my passport ( I think ). Because the money was below a certain amount they paid me out there and then. So for me I found Mum having a will was very useful0

What happens if she meets a new Man,she is still very young.
She might want her man to live in house after her death.0
