Where can I change a 500 Euro note

Hi-Unfortunately I have been saddled with a 500 Euro note. As I knew it was legal tender I did not realise it would be difficult to exchange- either into sterling or Euro notes of smaller divisions. My Bank will not exchange, neither will my travel agent. Does anyone know a UK Bank that will? Reading on other forums it seems they are equally difficult to exchange in Europe - does anyone know of anywhere in Amsterdam or Paris that might? Thank you

I can understand why a U.K. bank or U.K. travel agent with a bureau de change would not wish to exchange it for you into smaller denominations. They don’t want to be stuck with it either.
You will likely have to wait until you are next in Europe and use it to pay the hotel bill or an expensive meal. Taxi drivers, small shops even in Europe will likely not wish to take it for a small transaction.0 -
Thanks Westin, based on what I have been reading this seems my best option. Although it seems some banks in Europe are now unwilling to accept them0
