in Credit cards
I have an HSBC credit card. I got it last year on a promotional offer of 0% on balance transfers for 30 months. In April last year I transferred a balance from my Aqua credit card to the HSBC credit card of £750.09, the Aqua card was now paid off, done and dusted. Since then I have been chipping away at the balance of my HSBC card and at the end of January this year, I finally cleared the balance, at last I was at 0. So for the months Feb and March I have had no payment to make as the balance was zero. Then I received a letter from HSBC offering me a credit limit increase on my card of £1,000. I thought about it for a while, and decided I would take advantage of it, as I was planning on having a new kitchen, so it would come in handy for that. In the letter it basically says that if I would like to accept the credit limit increase, I can do so by logging into my account on line, so last night thats what I did.
However, when I did log into my account, I was shocked to find that an amount of £750.09 had been applied to my account!!!! I have no idea where this has come from, or even why it is on there in the first place. So, I rang HSBC customer services, and after a lengthy discussion, I was told that it would be looked into and someone would contact me very soon.
What I would like to know is, can HSBC just do this and put spending on my account without my knowledge or consent?, as ive said I had cleared the balance on my account 2 months ago, and now im more or less back to square one, having to make payments each month. If this is something to do with the balance transfer that I did 12months ago, and HSBC have made a mistake somewhere, surely that would be for them to put right, not penalise me for it by, essentially, putting me back into debt with them.
Any help or advice about how to deal with this would be very grateful.
Thank you

I hope that's not a real question. Obviously they can't go using your card for new spending. That's your job.
However, it may be an error, or it may be previously unposted transactions. If you owe the money, then you will be liable to pay it. From the figures you've posted, it looks like a duplicated transaction.
HSBC will be able to tell you once they've looked into it.0 -

Sorry to ask a really silly question, but do the payments that you made to HSBC show? And does it show your balance getting smaller after each payment?
And what is the date next to the 'new' £750.99 spend?Debt Free: 01/01/2020
Mortgage: 11/09/20240 -

Yes they can. When you take out a credit card, the bank can just put charges on it whenever they feel like it. That's how credit cards work.
They can also come into your house whenever they want to and eat your food and/or pets - you're not allowed to stop them0 -

Amounts don't just appear. There must have been a transaction or transactions with a description of what they are.0 -
