Msges arriving on phone after they have arrived on tablet

I can be sat using my Samsung galaxy A6 tablet receiving msgs etc, and it's not for about 4/5 mins later that my Samsung mobile a5 pings with the same msg.

The tablet is on home WiFi, the phone is on home WiFi and data. Don't bother switching them on/off as and where I am.

Are they both on the same ISP/telecoms provider?

OP says this happens when the devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, so I'm assuming not text messages but Internet data messages (like Messenger). Hence my question. :)

But he also says the phone is on data (by which I assume he means mobile network) so if for any reason the phone isn't connecting reliably to the wifi at home then the messages could be coming over the mobile network.

Are you using the same email app?
Could depend on your sync settings.

Your mobile phone sends requests for new messages later than your tablet most likely because it is in power saving sleep mode.

Oh dear, half a story. I'm talking facebook messenger, both wifi and date via EE. Facebook messenger updated on all three.

My stock answer to things like this is "it's just how it works". There could be a multitude of reasons why this happens but the main one is that two separate devices or the apps on them are not always configured the same, so there will be some underlying reason as to why this is happening. I sometimes get FB messenger messages at different times on my iPad and my phone, but usually only by about 30 seconds difference. Unless you have urgent need of getting messages by the exact second, it's not something I would worry about unduly.

You know what, you're right. Imo. I just wondered, nothing more. But wondering lead to thinking something might be wrong. I shall now drift off and wonder about other things.
