Energy standing charges

Why do energy companies lower tariffs but still charge high standing charges,it's like paying another BILL about time the goverment looked into this

    There are companys without a standing charge,granted,there unit rates are higher,but you only pay for what you use.Im with ebico. I pay £30 a month,except when i go on holiday for a month at a time, then according to my smart meter it drops to £3 for that month im away

    Do you remember the days when the first so many units were at one rate and the rest at another (loer) rate ?

    Standing charges on Oil ??Coal ?? Wood .


    With SC you can at least shop around not so the old method .


    Question is better asked of the regulater not MSE .

    I remember those days.
    Didn't the regulator look into it and put a stop to that?
