Vodafone account defaulted - no notice received

Hi,

I need some advice please. I am going through a re-mortgage process and I have discovered yesterday that Vodafone has defaulted my pay monthly contract that I had 4 years ago (default happened a year ago). Now I am confused as I had direct debit setup, which I did not cancel at any point in time. I had cancelled my contract with them and moved abroad. Now I am discovering £48 of outstanding payment and a defaulted account which is ruining my otherwise perfect credit score.

I called Vodafone and settled the amount but also tried to understand how this happened. They said it was overflowing amount that was never settled. But I had direct debit - why didnt they just charge me the full amount? The guy over the phone seemed to suggest I didnt have enough money or something was rather my fault (not paying an excess £20 pounds one month *due to insufficient funds or something* and then remaining the following month. I was still charged for direct debit but not for the full amount).

Now because this happened 4 years ago Vodafone cannot tell me exactly why I didnt pay. Vodafone said that they told me to pay, no they did not. I informed I moved address (and hence cancelled the phone) so whatever letter they might have sent I didnt get. I never got an email or any other form of communication.

Now my credit history is ruined by inability of Vodafone to take the money from the account details that they had. Is there any way that I can remove this Vodafone account default from my history?

Thanks!

AFAIK, a notice is require only by the Consumer Credit Act that doesn't apply to mobile contracts (unless it's a separate credit contract for a phone).

The only way to get the default removed is to prove that it's wrong.

    Your post is confusing:
    "default happened a year ago"
"this happened 4 years ago Vodafone cannot tell me exactly why I didnt pay"
  • I supposedly didnt pay 4 years ago but they defaulted the account 1 year ago...

Was on the phone with them just now and they said they have removed the default from my credit record. Turns out I cancelled the contract before it was up (i didnt know), I owed them £48 pounds (i didnt know) and they admitted that they never told me about this. They passed my details to debt collectors who never found me and I was never contacted by anyone regarding this issue.

Thankfully they have removed the record but nevertheless this is not a proper way to deal with customers and people in general. Causing a lot of unjustified stress.

If you find that they actually do what they promise, count yourself extremely lucky that it was resolved so easily. But don't count on it until you see it no longer present on your credit files.

Yes that is definetly a risk but I have taken all the reference numbers and if I dont see it cleared I will call them daily to make sure they do. And seeing as they record they calls there would be a recording available. I also started to record the conversation but the guy did not provide the consent...

And dont get me wrong I have spent 40 mins on the phone with a different Vodaphone guy yesterday who refused to admit anything and told me that legally he is all good. Today I asked to speak to Vodafone Credit File Support Team. I didnt myself but the guy on the phone put me on hold and spoke to them. I also said that I require an urgent escalation...
