NS&I Password Reset Problem.

Options
Has anybody else had problems recently with trying to get their NS&I password reset after forgetting it?
Yesterday I tried several times to do it and ended up being locked out.
The first time the phone rang with the auto message but cut off half way through. The next few times the phone didn't even ring even though the web page said they had tried to connect.

My account is now locked so I have to get it reset by post.
Two things I don't understand:-

1) Why don't NS&I use the same system as all the other places I have phone verification with which send a text to my phone with a code number which you input into their web page rather than an auto voice call where you have to enter a code on your phone that you get from their web page?
2) Why do I have to print out a form to sign and post in order to reset the password? Why can't they just post a new password to my registered address?

Sounds like a problem with their system/platform? Have you tried contacting them again over the phone?

Yes I did. The person I spoke to couldn't help but could only send me a form to sign and post back.

Seems like nobody else here has had the same problem or everybody else remembers their passwords.

Years ago (decade plus) I had a problem with a password reset with them which became a PITA as I had an online-only ISA account and they needed to reset security by post, but I'd moved house, so would need to prove it was really me etc.

I couldn't be bothered to jump through the hoops, and the ISA was the only product I had from them - so the easiest thing was just to open an account with a new ISA provider and do the standard transfer process, through which the new provider just goes and gets the money from NS&I.

It was only about £70 so it took me months to get around to doing it.

Wait till they receive your form and then decide they don't have your signature on record and then send you a second form. Yes this happened.

I don't even remember sending them a signature in the first place. Thought I did it all online.

    Password manager like KeePass
I've got probably hundred's of passwords ranging from forums, online purchasing to banks and credit card companies, plus other people's house access/gate combo numbers.
Passwords can be randomly generator if you desire by the program
The notes section in each keepass entry also allow me to record and extra data required by the login or any peculiarity's of the website/login, plus the url of the login page is stored.
So no, passwords are never forgotten this way

I still don't really understand why I have to fill out a form and send it to them for them to then send me back a form with a new password on. Nobody else does it that way do they?
Anyway, I'll do as they ask.

Still waiting for them to send a new password. Good job I don't need any money urgently.
