The accrued interest on mine is less than £10 so I really can’t be bothered to close it - and I’ll be able to dump my Nationwide current account sooner. I’ll keep one account with them to maintain my 15 year membership.

Thanks for starting this thread & thanks to all the advice on here. I closed my regular Saver this evening and if all goes according to plan I’ll open a new one tomorrow. I had 11 months of deposits, so a tidy £2750 which yielded £63 interest.
  • Yes, thanks from me too.
Nearly didn't bother but with Santander R.S. down from 5% to 3%, Tesco interest down to 1% , it's been a lean time lately, so closed mine tonight although I'd got until June and will open again tomorrow hopefully.
    Every little helps.

Closed my account yesterday and time is now 2am and the system is letting me apply for a new a/c.

Closed mine at 18:40 Yesterday, and at 05:30 Today, it is saying my account closure could take up to 48 hours, so cutting it fine, but should be OK for 23:59 Friday, I hope

    This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."

Same here. Also got my partner to close theirs. Hope I haven't done us both out of a few months interest :o

I still can't open a new RS, same error message. An email arrived today confirming the closure of the previous RS so I'd hope to open a new one tomorrow.

    Got it done this morning.

Me too, just about 24 hours after closing the existing one. All open now, and the first £250 is in the new account.

My previous account was due to mature around 14th April, so I didn't have much to lose by trying anyway.

ColdIron, many thanks for highlighting this - I'm sure I'd have found out too late if this hadn't been posted on the forum.

Can someone who is good at working out interest work this out because I get it to a different figure to what Nationwide do lol

I opened my new RS on 16/9 (after my old one matured) with £250 and then have placed £250 in this account on the 1st of every month right up to 1/4. My balance is now £2000. Upon looking at closing it gives me a balance of £2029.28 so £29.28 in interest. Shouldn't it be more around the £45 mark?
