Mot help/advice?
So put a £100 deposit on a £1600 08 xsara piccasso 95k miles diesel.
The car seemed ok on the test drive and the guy said he would put it through an MOT and this is what came back. when I looked at the MOT report online today. I'm looking for someone who really knows about cars is this a BIG deal and saying to the guy just give us the £100 back or is this an easy fix for them to do? Wife needs a car that runs for work and we have kids so need something safe?
Mileage: 95,022 miles
+ 6,343 miles travelled since last MOT.

Take the £100 based on bullet point 3 and 4.
Your money is better spent elsewhere.
Basically anything with “integral body structure” and “corroded” coming from an MOT tester is bad.0 -
Its 11 years old and rusty. Possibly going to need welding for the next MOT. £££+ ?
Unless you spend a lot of money cutting all the rust out its only going to get worse.
Buy something thats not rusty.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The drop links listed in items 1 and 2 are not a huge job. Cost of parts is £10 to £20 a side depending on quality fitted. Half hour job to fit.
Rust will almost certainly be the cill below the front doors towards the front. They all rust there which is why most older Picasso have a plated patch at this location. Not pretty but does the job. If done properly you can get years more use before other areas rot.
Why buy a car with structural rust though. I would walk away and buy something not rotten.0 -
Take your £100 back and run away.
This car is a money pit.0 -
I'd be prepared to lose the £100 deposit to get out of that deal.0

Just that fact this simple work hasn't been completed is reason to run a mile. What else has been skimped on? This car sounds like it need to be scrapped soon, so move on and find something better.

On a 2008 car I would be doing basic maintenance and taking each year as it came. I certainly wouldn't be spending money on drop links when it is a rust bucket.
£1,600...............eek!0 -
3 and 4 would have me walk away because there's plenty of cars that age and that price that don't need welding. The rest of the items it has failed on aren't anything to be concerned about, a couple of drop links and a wiper blade. Roads around here used to be so bad you'd end up replacing drop links every couple of years.
10 year old XsaraPicassos wouldn't be on my radar anyway because they tend to be owned by people who don't bother with servicing, maintenance or repairs other than what it needs to pass a MOT.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I've spoken to the guy today and while I already knew xsara's tend to need a bit of welding on the sils the report didn't sound that good.
However he did say it wasn't that bad and well it's not me paying for the repairs so if I'm not happy think I will just walk away.
This will be my 3rd Pic and always looked after them with a full service every year.
The one I have now can be driven but was damaged by a bus catching the back and scraping the side making it too costly for the age to repair 2007 plate with 76k miles. It's never failed on anything bad on an MOT shame we have to get rid.0
