Beware of Vodafone discounts
I have a Vodafone line as my secondary line which I don’t use often. I have had this for 3 years+ spanning one contract renewal. The renewal came with a phone which was £40/month with “discount applied” (apparently it is supposed to cost £60/month) which is a deal I will definitely not be taking).
My first bad experience started when I received an SMS telling me my prices will be going up. I called them to ask what that was all about, and they lied that it was an error and my prices were not going up! I even told the customer service rep to send a confirmation that my prices were not going up, which he did. Surely a month later my prices went up. At that point I promised myself to terminate the contract once it ended. As I couldn’t accept such bad service.
A year later I receive another SMS telling me my prices are going up by RPI. This I understand, but I see no reason how the RPI affects the cost of a device sold over a year ago. I can accept an RPI price increase with a SIM-only contract which makes sense as the cost of providing that service has gone up. However, increasing the price on a device sold over a year ago? That’s just day light robbery if you ask me.
So I call Vodafone to terminate my contract early and willing to pay off the rest of the contract. My calculations were £43 X number of months remaining. However, I was shocked to be told it is £64 X number of months remaining! According to them I will pay full price as the discount will no longer apply!
So, I learnt my lesson BEWARE OF VODAFONE DISCOUNTS!

Maybe the lesson you SHOULD learn is how ALL mobile contracts work. As for Vodafone - lying is standard operating procedure, among many other bad habits. Of course, with written confirmation that your price wasn't going up the first year you could have done something about it at the time. You need to get out of your head that the phone has a separate cost/contract; unless one of the new types, it doesn't and is classed as "free".0
