Faulty cctv

Options
I bought cctv from Costco in October 2018 and also paid Costco to install the cameras, £300. They were faulty on day one with one of the cameras showing distortion and a poor picture, you couldn’t see anything at night. It was a nightmare but eventually that camera was replaced.
Now the replaced camera is showing halos on the screen plus one other camera has stopped working altogether. I have asked for my money back which they have agreed to do but they won’t take the equipment down, it will be at my own cost plus, even though I paid them to fit it, they won’t refund me the installation fee I paid to them of £300. I can’t afford to replace the cctv with working equipment due to this. What are my rights as this doesn’t seem right. Also noted that part of the cabling has been covered by gaffer tape by the Costco installer which I have already been told isn’t weather right and could have caused the issue
Any advice in my rights before I go back to Costco appreciated

The infrared led lighting will have a limited distance. If you want better night vision without the restriction of the LED coverage you need a much better camera.

The tape wont be there to keep water out, its just to tidy up the cable, not the best solution though, I would expect proper ducting.

Without a picture of how they ran the cabling it would be hard to say whether it was fitted properly.

    How did you pay?

  • What type of Costco membership do you have? (Individual or trade) and where is the CCTV being used?

It would appear that you have a contract for the provision of goods (the cameras) and a contract for the provision of services (the installation).

The cameras are faulty and Costco have acknowledged this and offered you a refund (I assume from the posts that they want the faulty cameras back). You obviously want to replace the cameras and therefore require the old cameras to be removed (regardless of whether they have to be returned to Costco).

The Consumer Rights Act doesn’t give a remedy of undoing/reversing a service, but it does allow for a refund of up to the full price of the service. However, you would have to be able to prove that the service was not delivered with reasonable care and skill.

Thanks all I paid nearly £400 for the cameras and nearly £300 for the installation. Costco will refund me for the cameras only but not the installation of £300 I paid them, why I don’t know but they are refusing.
They also want me to remove the faulty cameras. One was replaced as faulty in the day it was installed but the replacement is now not working properly with a halo/sun light in it, it was ok a couple of months ago and another not working at all.
I need a full refund so I can replace the whole system and don’t want to lose £300 through no fault of my own. Costco don’t want to know at all

I paid by credit card and have contacted them about it.
Costco won’t refund the installation now, only the cameras even though the cameras are faulty and they fitted them

I have individual membership but bought the cameras online as Costco online provide installation, it’s not available in the shops

Thanks for your response. The tape is around the connectors rather than the wires and the tape seems to be holding the connectors together
    Thanks again
  • the tape will be black ? its called self amalgamating tape and used to keep water out

Whilst it's certainly the case that self amalgamating tape is often black, it can be obtained in various different colours.
I use this type of tape a lot and the particular one I use is red as the wiring looms that I seal with it are covered in a red fabric sheath.

Costco sold the cameras, they will refund for them if you return. Standard practice for them.

They also sell installation which is separate and provided by a separate company.

They have provided the installation and have been paid.

Its not really their fault that the cameras were not up to what you were expecting. But have you been in touch with them ?
