Thailand flight benchmarking

His domestic flight was cancelled; he took the next practicable departure; he narrowly missed his BA flight back to London. Since all his flights were on a single PNR he was placed on a flight operated by another airline, but was furious because he had not had the experience of flying BA, and of course was rather late back home.
Nope...they weren't even flying from Thailand, let alone from Samui with Bangkok Airways who have something like twenty two flights a day for that destination alone.
Understand now why it is not even close to the same thing?
Your couple were flying from Langkawi via Kuala Lumpur and how would overnighting have helped them anyway?
How many flights per day from Langkawi?0 -

Your logic against the overnight in Bangkok is twisted.
Having more flights per day actually increases the chance that a specific flight will be cancelled. That means there is actually a high potential of wasting holiday time building in a buffer.
The most sensible thing to do with Thailand is to simply spend any time in Bangkok at the end of your stay.
When we went to Thailand we managed to save a fair bit by booking Thai Airlines international and internal tickets separately and then asking them to stick them on a single PNR.0 -
Interesting to see Nifty is still not being nice to money savers and I haven’t yet joined the fun.
Btw one of my favourite places to overnight is Malpensa and I’m not even flying long-haul!
It seems some of us know how to fly and some of us don’t.
Ahh... I knew I recognised the rather unique posting style from somewhere.
Whether you do a final night stopover, booking everything on one ticket or DIY comes down to a personal choice. There are advantages and disadvantages to both so I wouldn't tell anyone they were wrong.
Personally, I tend to book my main flight to/from the country before I have decided on my internal itinerary so I like to keep things separate and flexible. I've done a some evening flights from Samui, Phuket and other domestic airports to Bangkok for a late night departure home and have always made the connection but I've had one or two close shaves - and BKK isn't the easiest airport to transfer through. I must have been through it 15-20 times but still get lost.
However, I accept that there are some things to be said for having everything on one ticket especially if you want to keep things simple.0 -

You say it's a personal choice, but a few people are trying to coax the OP into behaving stupidly because of their unrelated experiences.
The OP made a personal choice and others here are suggesting that it is wrong. It is patently ridiculous, especially when they don't appear to have a clue.
The OP has it exactly right and people who have never undertaken this route, should not be giving out advice and especially should not be arguing with someone who has extensive experience with the route....and I mean extensive.0 -
You actually seem to be too obsessed with your opinion being fact to actually read posts. I would normally assume that someone like you has lost all sense of reason and would happily ignore your "advice" and suggest other do the same.
Perhaps you can explain why moving a stay in Bangkok (as I suggested) to the end of a holiday, rather than the start would involve extra airport transfers?
Because the OP has chosen to begin their holiday in Bangkok and to finish it with the island hopping.
That is their choice.
If they chose to go to Bangkok after the relaxation of a beach holiday, then I would advise them accordingly.
But instead of helping the OP, most of the advice has been completely irrelevant. Indirect flights and suggestions for saving money which simply did not work.
The OP asked only about the price of his particular itinerary and got bombarded with nonsense....like moving the city trip to the end of the holiday.
Yeah...like everyone would choose to stay in a dirty and polluted city after relaxing on the islands. That would be depressing.
City first, enjoy shopping/eating/sightseeing and then off to the islands to relax.
P.S. I don't care if you ignore my advice. In fact you are welcome to put me on ignore.
I care only about the OP in this situation. That he gets the right advice. Not just random suggestions of no use.0 -

Perhaps the OP had not considered the idea of going to Bangkok at the end of the holiday? Perhaps they had not considered that going into a dirty hectic city would not be the place to get over the jet lag?
We all have different ideas about what we want to do but none of us should try and force their opinions down the throats of others, which is what you appear to want to do.
After all, I personally think travelling half way across the world to sit on a beach is a waste of time, money and the planet's resources. I think there are probably many more interesting places in Thailand than a small overcrowded island where there is little to do and see. I didn't take the time to let the OP know this as that would be bad advice.0 -

Again, these are all your opinions.
Due your pointless arguing, you have failed to notice that I am the only one not forcing their opinion on the OP.
In fact I have agreed with everything they are doing and also advised them on their original question, which no one else did.
So in fact it is most everyone else who is attempting to force their opinions on the OP, including yourself.0 -
Yeah...because I am the only one who actually read the OP's post and replied to it accordingly. The others coming out with wild, impractical and inappropriate suggestions.
So how else to counter the barrage of nonsense but to argue against it?0
