Thailand flight benchmarking

Hi All,

Planning a trip to Thailand in February 2020. Bangkok for 3 nights, Koh Phagan for 4 nights and Koh Samui for 7 nights. I know there are cheaper mainland flights south from Bangkok, but I want to fly straight to Koh Samui.

Currently getting a quote for £606 for the three legs: 1) London to Bangkok (direct); 2) Bangkok to Koh Samui; 3) Koh Samui to London with 1 hour 45 minute layover in Bangkok.

Does this seem reasonable? Likelihood of going down/up?

Thanks

Which airline, through an OTA or direct with the airline? Deals can often be had for BKK in £300's i.e China Southern. Main airlines usually charge more. Then check for prices of internal flights.

Problem with an OTA booking multi trip flights is that you have to check luggage is included especially on the internal sectors. Too many variables without further clarity from the OP.

Opodo and edreams both quoting the same price.

Eva Air for first and last leg. Bangkok Airways for middle leg.

    All inclusive of checked baggage.

Internal flights between Bangkok and Koh Samui look very expensive because of Bangkok Airways monopoly of the letters airport.

Bodders11, if I was planning that trip I would be steering clear of the OTA's and price up the flights direct through the airline.

There are two airports in Bangkok, the other is DMK maybe there are cheaper flights from there but you will have to get from/to BKK.

    Your choice though.

The same company, and one that I would NEVER so much as consider using. Read some reviews before you even think about booking.

You might explore the costs of return flights between Bangkok and Koh Samui. Be sure to leave ample time (preferably overnight) between arrival in Bangkok and departure for London.

Remember that there are other (and cheaper) ways of getting to Koh Samui then flying there directly: these would take longer but might be a lot more fun. And of course there are plenty of beautiful islands...

Thanks for the helpful advice. I will price up the individual flights.

The sound advice is to spend your final night in Bangkok. You're asking for any number of potential pitfalls by only allowing a short layover in Bangkok before your return international flight.

Unfortunately the idea to spend the night in Bangkok for fear of missing a flight is really nonsense.

First of all, if the ticket is under a single PNR. you luggage is checked all the way through to the final destination.

So sound advice it isn't and pricing up the flights individually isn't sound advice either, since you won't have the booking under a single PNR.

The only thing that has been good advice, is to avoid eDreams and Opodo...

Don't. You need them under a single PNR or you won't be able to check your luggage all the way through from USM(Samui). https://www.bangkokair.com/through-check-in

Do join the Bangkok Airways FF program https://flyerbonus.bangkokair.com to get an extra 5kgs of baggage allowance...to 25kgs.

Disregard comments regarding no luggage allowance, since neither EVA nor Bangkok Airways sell flights with no checked baggage allowance.
