ellie are you not getting on with painkillers because of side effects? Anything codeine based slows everything right down.....if it's not because of that is there nothing else that the doctor would be willing to let you try?
dandy-candy I'd say it depends where you plan to ride your bike. If you live somewhere that you can ride it in peace then go for it. a lot of people ride their bikes along the prom here. If you live somewhere that has busy roads I'd be less inclined. The standard of some of the driving that I see just from my car is appalling.
Izadora try slowing down to get your 20 minute run in. That's the advice that everyone gets. If you're having trouble with distance then slow down. Once you have the distance in you can practice picking up your pace.
dumpling I love eggs too. I'm having prawn salad today so I think I might hard boil some eggs too - an egg would go well with that. Guess who is going to be the cat's favourite person today :rotfl:
I forgot to say that I did most of the garden yesterday. All borders weeded, the plants that I wanted to get out in tubs are out and there is just the grass to cut today. It'll be good to have it tidy before the weather turns back to the more usual "dull and rainy" which the weather guess says is going to happen on Wednesday.0 -

Exactly right Cranky. It's the first time I've taken codeine, and when I started it was all day vomiting and nausea. I'm taking a lower dose now, but *everything* has slowed right down.
I suppose I'll have to ask the doctor, I hate going to the doctor!

ellie what are you taking if you don't mind me asking? I take dihydroodeine which is bearable in the small dose that I take every night (it makes me sleep and if I have a good night's sleep I can manage during the day). I have tried tramadol which is supposed to make you less constipated (that's right but it didn't make me sleep so that had to go) and I have had zapain which scared me a little as it has paracetamol in it so you do have to watch the dosage. The worst thing I ever had was slow release dihydrocodeine which made me more constipated than I have ever been in my entire life and I will never take it again.
The HT exists happily on amitriptyline. He takes it at night because it can also make you sleepy - that means we have to make sure he doesn't take it too late.
**Remember we can discuss medication and side effects but no actual medical advice can be given. I've always found that the best advice is "go and see your doctor" anyway, but there's no harm in being aware of side effects that other people have experienced.0 -
Well i am reporting a STS this week, which i am ok with as i have eaten and drank so much rubbish this week. uni essays also mean i have been stuck in house working and not out walking. fingers crossed when i get them finished in a few weeks i can get back to some sort of exercise and not the kind that involves me lifting snacks into my mouth whilst typing.
hope everyone had a lovely easterDEBT

Cranky40, I've been given co-codamol 30/500 for chronic back pain. Dose was 8 a day, but I'm only managing 3 a day because of the nausea.
The constipation is bad, a friend warned me it would be.
I read the leaflet and see it can be addictive so obviously I won't be on it long term, but I'm tempted to stop taking it. It's like, which is the lesser evil? I'd love a painkiller I could take just on days I'm working

ellie, that's a lot of codeine to be putting in. Are they making you sleepy? I buy over the counter co-codamol for migraines which are only 8/500. I'm assuming that you've tried those but if not could you ask your doctor for a mixture...maybe lower dose ones on days you're not working with a boost from the higher ones on days that you are or a mix of both so you don't feel so sick. My dihydrocodeine tablets are 30mg but I only take one of those at night and maybe one if I'm doing anything strenuous during the day. I couldn't take one and sit on the sofa - I'd be asleep. I'm also thinking that with that high a dose of codeine your doctor should also have given you something like sennakot - another thing to discuss at your next appointment.0

Thanks Cranky. I haven't tried any other strengths, this is my first time on codeine. They don't really make me sleepy, I still wake up about 5/6 times a night. I think I need to speak to a doctor again, I just hadn't considered that I would have nasty side effects.
Like many others in my town, I've been moved to a surgery in a neighbouring town as there are not enough GPs here. So that puts me off even more, having to make the trip, and I'm not used to the surgery.
Having a bad food day, I made a banoffee pie.

Congratulations on the new job Cranky
I've spent the weekend avoiding anything remotely Easter like, including half price 'fancy' chocolates and fudge in the farm shop. It helped that I checked the calories on the pack of fudge 775 calories  And we just had a cup of tea rather than a slice of cake or toasted hot cross bun in the garden centre cafeI'm really trying this week to get my act together and my interim weight in looked good, I'll just have to keep it going once I'm back at work tomorrow or I could undo my chocolate free Easter
I saw a picture of one of my sisters on faceache yesterday at a family lunch, I haven't seen her since Christmas and was shocked and worried at her weight gain and her size. I don't mean to sound mean as all my siblings and myself fight our weight demons, I'm far from small but she's only 4ft 11 and extremely apple shaped, with high enough blood pressure to have been hospitalised in the pass, type 2 diabetes and really high cholesterol. She's 60 this year and since my mum died seven years ago she just doesn't look after herself, she lived with my mum so had a least one proper meal a day and now just eats rubbish. I decided to stop talking weight and diet with her, she's an adult and I know like me someone nagging can just make her more stubborn, we've all tried over the years to be supportive my nephew's wife has offered to go to SW with her and her dr surgery will pay the first either 10 or 12 sessions.
Sorry just needed to offload, at this moment in time there's nothing to do except hope her health doesn't get worst as she lives on her own. I have sisters in their mid and late 70s who I worry less about.Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
