Well that's why we have consumer rights and regulators. They're there to protect consumers, to put responsibility on the traders because it's meant to be a mutually beneficial transaction. You form a contract with the trader, so the responsibility is on both. The only thing that is really a problem is the stress and time the consumer has to go through to resolve issues. So to say it's your money, your responsibility isn't fair or right. You can draw up your own opinion on it, but laws are there for a reason.

As I also pointed out previously, many companies may have equal amounts of positive and negative reviews so there's no definite that you're going to have a bad experience. It's pretty much 50/50.

Well, if you want to rely on your consumer rights to protect you after you've had a problem instead of spending a little time before you buy, who am I to say you're wrong?

You might feel it's not right or fair to have to take responsibility for your money but as things stand right now, that's the most sensible thing to do. In my opinion.

I'd rather weed out undesirable suppliers than do business with one and trying to get an issue rectified afterwards.

I doubt you'll read a complaint about any company or service provider on this board from me.

As for 50/50 on the reviews, maybe it will be, maybe it won't.
You'll never know unless you check before you buy.
I see reviews on companies in the same way as accommodation reviews - read between the lines and take comments with a pinch of salt.
If you can't do that, I can see why you want to rely on consumer protection.

Well, I agree with regards to hating the Curry’s hard sell - to the extent where I was sacked years ago because I refused to do it... :D
However I got a look at the way issues are handled, and thus I’m happy to buy there even now and still do.

I’ve had a couple of minor issues with JL to date, but nothing worth moaning about.

Ryanair - no issues, travel with them a lot because they’re cheap as chips. 50+ flights to date
Sports Direct are awful for CS - but I still buy from them as they’re cheap and stuff that doesn’t last can be cheaply replaced.

DPD are a company that people rave about but I have nothing but issues with - I run a mail order business and I’ve had endless returns from Customs due to DPD not filing the correct paperwork (even DPD admit this)

See, although I can understand your dissatisfaction with DPD, if I read your negative review on them, it wouldn't put me off using them (if the deal was right) as I almost certainly wouldn't be ordering or posting anything overseas.

Here's what MSE say about buying on-line:
Google for feedback. The internet's a powerful way to hunt out other consumers' experiences. Easiest of all, do a quick Google search for the company name next to the word 'complaints', eg, "Delboy Ltd complaints" and look for trends and feedback.

Pretty good advice, imho of course. ;)

The Praise, Vent and Warnings board bears this out.

Which is where this thread should be. ;)
