People don't always think to do this or have the time to. Sometimes you walk into a high street store, you don't think "Maybe I should check out this places reviews before I buy anything", you just go ahead and buy. It's natural really. You shouldn't have to read up on every company you buy from before you buy from them. Why isn't it the other way around instead, where the companies should have to provide a good service as standard? It's not really fair to put all that responsibility on the consumer. It's meant to be a mutually beneficial transaction.
Your money - your responsibility to look after it.
Nobody else will.
In this day and age, the information is freely available.
If you're in such a hurry to spend your money that you can't spend a few minutes Googling to safeguard that money...
I do agree that it should be the other way round and you should be able to trust companies, but unfortunately you can't.
So you do your best to make sure that you're spending your money wisely.
I think it's very fair to put all that responsibility on the consumer.
As I've already said:
Your money, your responsibility.0 -
Ditto Wickes and the millions of trade people that buy stuff and have no problem .0

I think not
Didnt soecifically want to mention any companies but yes, Currys is one of of the companies who’s reputation leads it to regularly graces this forum.
As such and the point of my original post.... why would you go to Curry’s when you could equally go to a place that wasn’t regularly featured here for problems?
Case in point an Indesit 71453 washing machine can be bought at both Curry’s & John Lewis. The price is the same at £229*. Again why choose Curry’s with its general history of problems over John Lewis which generally has excellent customer satisfaction.
So AGAIN, why choose Curry’s?
* I do note that John Lewis give a 2 year warranty whereas Curry’s is only 1 year. Also an extension to 5 years is a one off payment of £100 at John Lewis but £4.49/mth** with Curry’s for a total cost £269.40... on a washing machine sold for £229!! Not that I’m alluding to Curry’s customers being stupid or anything just that Curry’s definitely knows it’s customers!!!
** wasn’t somebody recently complaining about the deceitful hard selling of extended warranties at Curry’s???0 -

Is this thread just an excuse for Currys bashing?0 -
I have never had a problem buying from Currys. I do my homework and check prices before I buy. I'm a grown up and understand that there will always be more people who are happy than those who moan on the internet.0

There's 186 consumer rights posts on this forum about John Lewis and 300 about currys.
John Lewis have 51 stores and Currys have 295 megastores and 73 high street shops. Both obviously have an internet presense.0 -
300 currys posts over how many years compared to currys total customer sales over that period .1 million or more at a guess .
Fact is its only those that think they have a problem that post .001 % say good most who have a good experince never ever post anyplace ..
Makes much of what the OP says meaningless .0 -

Well that's why we have consumer rights and regulators. They're there to protect consumers, to put responsibility on the traders because it's meant to be a mutually beneficial transaction. You form a contract with the trader, so the responsibility is on both. The only thing that is really a problem is the stress and time the consumer has to go through to resolve issues. So to say it's your money, your responsibility isn't fair or right. You can draw up your own opinion on it, but laws are there for a reason.
As I also pointed out previously, many companies may have equal amounts of positive and negative reviews so there's no definite that you're going to have a bad experience. It's pretty much 50/50.0 -

Yes, I did have a quick skim re: John Lewis complaints and it’s hard to pick a favourite but it’s a toss up between the lady who bought items from JL online but wasn’t charged so wanted to complain when they did eventually charge her 4 months later...... do I have to pay??? or the man with a problem TV who refused a repair and demanded a full refund. He wanted to complain after the Ombudsman refused to get involved.
There is a strangely middle class angst that runs through JL complaints....”but it John Lewis!!” they wailed.0 -
