Just a tip: always reverse into a parking space and drive out.
I do & did!
There are no lines in the car park. I’m order to make sure the kids didn’t ding the other car when getting out I parked extra close to the car to my left.
Closer than I normally would.
When I got back in I drove as if I had parked “normally”.0 -

Answers in a thread can help more people than just you, the OP. You would be surprised how many see "I'm having a hard time at the moment; I am suffering from depression and on pills etc., etc., etc.," as mediating the offence when it actually aggravates it.
I’m not suffering from depression or on pills.
I have a fulltime & full on busy responsible job and I started helping my daughter out 4 mornings a week with my grandchildren and 2 afternoons.0 -
Regret it financially?
Are you suggesting it’s time for me to give up driving.....
I brushed against the car - yes I was stressed and in a rush.
I’m not suggesting it was anyone’s fault but my own.
I thought paying myself was an option - I’m not familiar with insurance claiming as I’ve only had two in my life so far.
No, no - I was NOT suggesting that at all - far from it.
I was meaning that if you don't file a report with your insurance company - as one is supposed do, even if you settle the cost privately with the 3rd party - your premiums will likely go up quite a bit, if the 3rd party does at some future date make a claim through their insurance company.
You'll get "Why did you not report this to us." at the very least.
I would not suggest that you tell them that you 'were rushed and stressed'.
That would sound very bad on a claim form.
Good luck.0 -

If you do go the 'cheap' route, be sure to get them to sign as full and final settlement and hope they don't approach your insurance company. Not declaring non fault accidents is bad enough. Not declaring an at fault one can have all sorts of consequences if your insurance co find out, and the person can still go ahead and approach your insurance company even if they do sign a declaration of full and final. They might not get anything out of it, but you would then have an insurance co that knows you breached their Ts and Cs. Cancellation can seriously affect your ability to get reasonably priced insurance.
Not to mention the potential for insurance fraud when you renew and fail to tell the insurer about the incident.
Something to consider perhaps - particularly if OP is in a profession like mine where anything more than a speeding ticket would see you lose your career. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Just a tip: always reverse into a parking space and drive out.My missus doesn't get this.........lol.
Always park for a quick getaway. You just never know when the !!!! is going to hit the fan (from years of living in South Africa).
Nor mine. I remember once having to do a 17 point turn to get into a parking space. My wife, who has been driving for 14 years longer than me said "Why don't you just drive in, it's easier" I told her that while it was easier to drive in, it would be a nightmare to reverse out and would also involve reversing on to a road. I didn't get a "You are right, dear, well done" I got an eye roll and a heavy sigh.I’m not suffering from depression or on pills.

You don't read things fully do you? Part of the reason for giving full answers, which might supersede your requirements other people might come across this thread after doing a search and follow examples to form their own opinions and next steps. You might not need the full whack, but go on pepipoo and you will see how frequently think that driving while stressed or while on depression medication is mediating against their offence.
Try to not be so defensive. If you are as defensive with a policeman, you will fail the infamous 'attitude test' which can decide the difference between a telling off and a ticket.0 -
It's nothing on you OP. We're just trying to get you to reflect on something you may not have noticed that may well save you a lot of grief down the line.
My driving is a direct reflection of my state of mind. As soon as I start stalling when pulling away, or notice I keep stopping too far over the give way line and things like that. I realise I need to take a look at what's going on in my life.0 -

Yes I’ll definitely do less rushing around when performing manoeuvres.
I wouldn’t normally have parked so close, in fact I’m anal about parking in the middle, drivers who park skewiff really annoy me.
I parked close to the left to let the grandkids out without dinging the car to my right. When I got back in, I pulled out as if I’d parked normally. Her car was a tiny little thing, I have an SUV (bet I get more flack now!) as I say I’d never normally park like that.0 -
Who is to say that the damage you caused wasn't due to you being careless with a shopping trolley or an appropriately unwieldy item you were trying to get past the other persons car! That would not be something that your insurance company would be interested in and therefore perfectly reasonable for you to offer to repair the damage informally. :-)
In the same position and if the other party appeared reasonable I would be getting it fixed between us without insurance company involvement.
In fact I was in that position and I did - neither of us wanted insurance involvement (the other party especially as driving was their business).
In my 30 odd year driving career I also:
- broke my own rear light cluster while reversing out of my own drive (Doh!) - just replaced the cluster myself (again didn't involve the insurance).
- Hit a deer (Doh!.....a deer) - slight crack in bumper - repaired - again no insurance company. (as they say - if you cant fix it with duck tape you aint using enough duck tape).
To those who say contact insurance company for every incident no matter how small where do you draw the line? Do you call them reporting every stone chip (that you repair yourself)?
- My car got really muddy once - I just cleaned it - again no insurance involvement...Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???0 -
The OP is having accidents now. We know this cos they've told us. But they could just be accidents. Sometimes that's the way it goes, momentary lapse in concentration for no reason what so ever. Or maybe there is an underling reason. Either way not sure why this would need to be explained in court or to police man. Be more careful and crack on.0
