No contact from landlord after moving out.

Hi, I moved out of my rented home about a month ago but haven't heard anything from the landlord about the deposit. I requested it online a week ago. I've just noticed that the property is listed to rent on Rightmove. Can they relet the house before returning my deposit? I have had no contact from them at all.

Many thanks

Have a read and follow the steps.

Yes, the landlord can rent the property back out as it would be perverse to prevent the landlord doing so if there was a genuine dispute which may take weeks/months to resolve.

Yes if the tenancy has ended, the property is his to do with as he wishes.

Return of the deposit is a separate matter.

You've put in a request to the scheme (I assume acknowledged?) so they will contact the LL to request his agreement. If he fails to respond to them, they'll return it to you.

    See their FAQ online.

You have moved out. It is the landlords house they can list it and rent it out. Nothing to do with you or deposit.

The deposit scheme is handling your deposit, they will contact the landlord and all being well he will authorise payment.

There is no need/requirement for your ex landlord to get in touch with you.

Your deposit scheme is the one now handling your return.
